  • UK Train Question

This is way ahead of time, but I am a planner So some questions for my UK friends or people from this side of the pond who have stayed at Clowance House.

In May '10, we have a week scheduled at Clowance House which I know is a long way from LHR. Rather than facing a 5 or 6? hour drive after an overnight flight, we are considering taking the train down to Truro on Thursday, spending two nights there and then picking up a rental car Saturday morning to go out to Clowance.

The most critical question - is this a rational idea? Presuming that the answer is yes, how much time should I allow between getting off the plane and being ready to board a train? Are there any "watch outs" in doing this? I ask this because it appears that I can save money with an advance ticket purchase, but with the risk of a non-trivial penalty if I don't make the train I have reserved.

Is Truro the right destination station, keeping in mind the need to to a car hire and planning to explore on foot or via bus for a day or two?

Are there any recommendations on reasonably priced B&B's or hotels for two nights in Truro, especially within a 10 or 15 minute walk of the rail station?

I gather that I have to pick up a rental car no later than 1 PM on Saturday. Are there any agencies which are conveniently located relative to the rail station?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.
