  • swimmable beaches?

If my various caribbean exchange requests don't come through, I may have to consider going back to Mexico. Not my first choice, or even 5th, but an easier trade...

Are any of the nicer resorts in Riviera Maya, PV/NV or Cabo on swimmable beaches? Mayan resorts looks to be my best bet but I would appreciate other possibly attainable suggestions.

    TIA

The Gran Mayan in Rivera Maya is a great resort the beach is not nice but with 2 mega pools like they have who cares.
The Grand Mayan in N.V IMO is one of there best resorts beach is nice as is the one in Acapulco I can not say about Cabo because I have not been there. I am going to Cabo in Feb but going to Hacienda del Mar Vacation Club - Los Cabos Which I hear is a partial swimable beach.

If you want Cancun go with the Gran Sol Meiia, What a beautiful resort.

If you do not mind a 3 and a half star resort go to Cozumel Sol Melia which is an all inclusive, the drinks are not top shelf food is ok but the fees are like $50 per person per day, The beach there is great because of the snorkeling I have never seen so many fish, They were eating out of my hand and even trying to steal the bread from my pockets.

I don't understand this, but it seems to be prevalent among resort goers. I hate pools!! I hate sitting by them almost as much as I hate swimming in chemicals. I will look into NV, thanks for the suggestion.

Hands down - just love the GM NV - I know Pat H does as well.
GREAT pools/lazy/crazy river and lovely beach that you can walk along.
Easy access to public buses to take you into DownTown PV.

We also stayed at twice and REALLY liked Villar Del Palmar Flamingos, NV - here, the beach is wonderful and the people watching is so much fun. Right next door is "Playa Del Sol Grand". The downside of these two resorts is that they are far from PV but there are many nice restaurants in the area.
We swam at the beach every day - neither of these are 'mega-resorts' like GM/MPs - so have a really nice personal feel.

ok, based on some cursory review of reviews, GM looks like it may be a bit overwhelming for us. The other two aren't available in my timeframe but I will keep an eye out and consider adding them to my request(s) - they sound more my speed (thanks for checking the name, Pat ).

TPI seems to get the Playa del Sol Grand a lot.... Villa Del Palmar Flamingos (not the old one in town) is really lovely - I have a friends who owns there who could possibly get you a resie. PM me if you would like me to inquire.

Pat, do you know the RCI code for VDPF? I can't find it in either II or RCI, just the VDP, but the Flamingos looks nice.

Thanks for the offer, I will keep it mind. But I REALLY want to try to trade one of my many weeks before I even think about renting and there are other places I would rather go if I am renting. I will look at PDSG next.

VDPF is not with RCI = only II as far as I know.

This is an old resort but it has a very calm beach and is close to town.

They also have sailboats that you can use for free.

The pool was nice too and no all inclusive.

Since it's not one of those mega resorts, when you open the glass doors you can walk right out to the beach from your patio.

I found this place to feel like the "real" Mexico.

Walmart is nearby so you can stock up on good tequila real cheap.

Thanks, Chriskre -- I have been to VCI/Club Internacional (day visit while staying at other Royals). I would like to skip Cancun this time , have been there quite a bit. But it's a nice spot and I would consider it if I were going to back.

The Royal Haciendas in Playa Del Carmen is a gorgeous resort with a very nice and swimmable beach. It is the newest of the Royal Resorts family and trades in II. It's not an easy trade but it does become available. It's definitely worth checking out.

I understand wanting to try somewhere else.
So many beaches to discover in Mexico.
I'd love to go back but all my friends are paranoid of the problems there.

I know you were asking about Mexico, but in interest of beach locations that are an easy trade, have you been to St. Maarten?

Lots of swimable beaches and an European culture. If you can get someplace like Mary Boon's, you will not be trapped in a mega resort. We rented a jeep and drove all around the island. The Wednesday outdoor market in Marigot is a fun experience. A day trip to St. Barts is doable. Plenty of excellent restaurants.

I think I've got to plan another trip there myself.

Part of the reason it's not high on my list. Fear of danger aside (my brother's associate did get kidnapped - granted it was a long time ago), I don't like getting hassled/hustled/ripped off and don't get me started on the government and general corruption. On our last trip my son was able to understand the cabbies and valets speaking in spanish about overcharging us, which was just aggravating. There seemed to have been a noticeable change in attitude there as immigration issues are now front and center. Oh, yeah, the food poisoning didn't help. I think I'm talking myself out of it.... though now I will check out Royal Haciendas...
