This is a picture I took from my balcony of a 4' tiger shark swimming a few feet off Maui. I saw this shark come in close to shore and then go back out to deeper water. It immediately returned and swam parallel to shore. the fellow in the red cap was a snorkeling instructor and was trying to scare the shark away. Needless to say this was the end on my snorkeling career in Maui.
How horrible. When we were in Key West we were in a lagoon snorkeling when a huge shark swam up right beside Kelli. Luckily it turned away and we got back into the boat and stayed there!! I've never been more scared in my life. shaggy
I didn't know Wastegate had stuff in those locations.

I used a Cannon Powershot camera for the picture. I was able to magnify it on my viewing screen to see all the detail. Once I got home, I used Microsoft Digital image software to magnify the picture and save it.
I approached the snorkeling instructor and showed him the picture on my screen. He wanted it e-mailed to him once I got home to prove he risks everything to help his students. He identified the shark as a baby tiger. I asked him how he arrived at the baby designation and he said because " ALL OF HIS TEETH WERE NOT SHOWING". He did say it was rare to see one that close to shore. The beach was closed to all swimmers for an hour after the sighting.
I had been snorkeling in that area the previous day and was planning on going later that day. I rented the snorkeling equipment from a dive shop and I returned it that day. The owner of the shop said I was extremely lucky to see a shark that close to the shore because it was very rare.
I would rather be extremely lucky hitting the lottery.
