Upgrading Mayan Palace Regency Senior Certificate contracts to avoid fees

We leave Mazatlan this Friday, April 8.

Has anyone upgraded Mayan contracts by mail or FedEx? We have been told "These contracts need to be done in person."

We currently own Mayan Palace Regency contracts with Senior Certificates for:
2 + 2 VF weeks x 2 bedroom - purchased 15 Dec 2006 - refurbishment due Dec 2011
4 weeks x + 4 VF 2 bedroom -purchased 5 Jan 2007 - refurbishment due Jan 2012
We NEVER use VF weeks as they require MF. Our Senior Certificates allow us to use Register weeks with no MF.

Has anyone recently upgraded Mayan Palace Regency Senior Certificate contracts to avoid fees? If so, can you share what kind of deal or costs you got?

We did an upgrade via email with a salesperson in Puerto Penasco - MP to GM, back in 2006. The documents were FedExed to us.

When I took the upgrade tour in Acapulco, the Sr. Certificates that we have were going to transfer to an upgraded contract. But the cost to upgrade was more than the cost of renovation fees for all of our contracts for 3-1/2 times. We were also getting 2 fewer units with the upgrade.

We have 12 years before we get to use those free weeks though. We will also have only 3-5 years of free usage on 4 of our contracts, but our GM contract will give us 9 free years as we do not plan to renew any contracts when they come up for the 25 year renewal.

Since you are already using the Sr. Certificate and the only requirement is to pay the upgrade fee, they may not let you upgrade and avoid the reno fee.
