  • Air Port info and Excursions

My first trip to Cancun is for next year Feb 18 to 23rd. We will be staying at the Ocean Spa Hotel There seems to be two websites for the Cancun airport, one with .com and the other with .net. Are these both legitimate? They appear to be very different but both advertise themselves as Cancun International Airport.

Secondly, having just started researching excursions can anyone recommend what I should be looking for? In the Dominican, they had several different tour companies that had similar excursions and of course, the prices varied. Sometimes, they would sell the same excursion but at different prices. Based on what I have seen so far, this will also be the case in Mexico.

Try this link for a more "official" Mexico airport information website.

ASUR > Airports > CancĂșn > CancĂșn International Airport

Also, When my family went to Cancun we used Brant for our excursions as well as our transfer from the airport.

    About Us

    Entertainment Plus Cancun

However, we were a group of 9 so some of our excursions were done as private party/group...so our per person cost was lower than average. I agree that most sell the same thing..and at almost the same price. Zero in on what you want to do and then price against him..and see if it plays out better for you. Some things you cant change...like say the entry price to Xcaret..the price is the price but one tour company might offer something extra that another does not.

Brant has had a good reputation across the timesharing and Cancun travel boards. I can say that my entire dealings with his tours and staff went off without a hitch..including tracking down our driver from our Chichen Itza tour who took picture of us jumping and swimming in a cenote with his private camera and then connecting us so he could email them to me once we came home.

    Hope this helps.

Make sure that you have your airport transportation planned ahead of time.

After you clear customs, you will be bombarded by people offering transportation. They are actually trying to get you to take timeshare tours. Many are scam artists and will lie to you. Just ignore them and walk to where your arranged transportation is. Don't say a word to them. Many will ask you what you are looking for and will tell you that they are the official transportation. We have gone through this several times at the airport in Cancun. Again, just walk on by and don't even look at them.

As to tours, you can find out the information you need by doing a search for "Cancun Tours". We have been on many but we always arranged them directly through the resort at the Grand Mayan.

I strongly recommend the Xcaret tour. We have done it 3 times. Of all the tours we have been on, it was by far the best. Make sure you take the complete tour including the night Mexican show which is awesome.

We have also done Xel-ha, Tulum, Chichen Itza. You can do a combined Xel-ha/Tulum tour. The Chichen Itza tour is a long day as it is a long bus ride. If you want any details, let me know.

The best site I have found for airport transfer options is

To and From the Airport.com - How to get to and from hundreds of the worldÂŽs airports by car, bus, train & other forms of public transport.

This has been up on our Links Directory, but that is temporarily down.

We have used Brant many times both for airport RT and excurisions and even for cab service. Brant Boston comes highly recomended from me.
He is also a member here so if you have questions I can have him answer questions for you on this site.

My travel arrangements have been made by the resort upon arrivale once we book our flights (we missed out on good deals previously so crossing my fingers they come down soon)

So I do have a couple questions than, as this does look interesting. Have you done the plus tour or the basic? From what I can tell for $25 more all you get is a buffet lunch. Only other question is how is the tour different than just getting a ticket to the park?

Not to rain on your parade but that is Presidents week and the fares are going to do nothing but go up even if you are flying from Canada where it is not celebrated.

Nope, not at all what I wanted to hear! I was expecting around $400 round trip flying out of Detroit so I should maybe take while I can get then. Best price I see right now is $555.

My like the prices will go down!

I would jump on that price right now. From Denver, it is often $700-$900 for prime time unless you book way ahead (and President's week is definitely prime time!).

We did the complete tour that included everything, buffet lunch, night show. The tour is different in that you don't need to worry about how to get there and back, etc. The tour bus picks you up at the resort and brings you back. Once you enter the park, you are on your own to do what you want. I have no idea what the comparative costs are as that was of no interest. We just want the easiest way with less hassles. We always take tours regardless of whether we are in Mexico, New York City, or wherever. We never rent cars when we vacation unless absolutely necessary, especially not in Mexico.
