Cancun - Gran Melia or Club Regina

It has been a long time since we visited Cancun. I am looking at booking a 1BR week at either the Gran Melia (not all inclusive) or the Raintree Club Regina. I know there have been a lot of changes with Westin and Raintree in PV -don't know how it has impacted Cancun. Another thread said the Melia is going to all inclusive but the exchange through RCI says it is optional. I don't want to become a second class guest; any information on that? Which resort would you choose, Melia or Regina?

I haven't stayed at either resort, but based on their locations I'd opt for Gran Melia. I walked through that resort several years ago and it seemed very nice at the time.

I would go with the Melia based on the good things I've heard about it. Big Frank loved the place and he would probably go with it, too. He may chime in when he gets back from his internet free trip.

I am leaning towards the Melia as well but any thoughts on whether RCI/Melia will honor the optional AI if I book it? I don't want AI. I don't think AI is optional with Paradisus, which apparently is the new name.

My response as well since I never stayed at either one but preferred Melia when I walked through both properties.

I have stayed at both GM hands down but last I heard they might now be an AI now

I called the Gran Melia and they told me that the AI is optional so I went with them. Thanks everyone for your help. You guys are great!
