Since when? Listed as a getaway in II, not cheap without the AI and A I listed as mandatory.. I don't see any info on the II website about AI fees, though. Anyone know?

I believe Royal Sands and Royal Hacienda are now AI for exchanges and renters.
If you rent from an owner, you can avoid the charge or chose the number of days you take the AI.

Yeah. I had Royal Hacienda on my list...but had to cross it off after the AI implementation. At least I got to stay at the Sands before hand. Heavy discussion about it over yonder in the Mexico forum if you venture there.
