  • Cancun Area - Spring Break 2015 Questions

Looking for recommendations on places to stay that are not AI. We will be taking our 12 almost 13 year old Grand daughter and want to avoid the college spring break activities. This will be our first visit to Mexico in 20 years.

The breakers may be everywhere. AI might just be a better choice.

If you rent from an owner at Royal Sands, you do not have to pay the AI fee.

I prefer the Royal Caribbean and the Royal Islander but do not know if they are also AI if you exchange …. they are very family friendly resorts with LOTS of people returning every year.

Other option is the Westin Lagunamar…not AI.

The Royal Cancun is nice too.
I stayed there several years ago and it wasn't AI at the time.
        Not sure about today though.
        I've heard they've changed things.

The beach and resort is really kid friendly too.
It's a bay beach and they have little sailboats that you can use for free.
They teach you how to use them.
They also had lots of crafting activities and socializing opportunities with
        free tacos etc.

The beach at the other Royals tends to be too rough for my taste.
Way too many red flag days.
Once you stay at one Royal you can hop their resort transport and
visit the other resorts. At least that's what it used to be like.

It's also pretty close to Wal Mart and to the ferry to Isla Mujeres which is a great day trip.

The Royal Caribbean, Royal Islander, and Royal Cancun (formally VCI) are not all-inclusive. Of all the resorts in Cancun, I think these would have the lowest percentage of spring breakers. From my experience travelling to Cancun, the Royal Resorts seem to have more mature guests than the average hotel/resort in town. I would personally avoid an AI resort during spring break. College age students + free alcohol = non-stop party.
