  • Political Unrest in Mexico effect on Tourist areas??

I heard on a news show this AM that there have been some problems in some tourist areas in Mexico due to the unrest over the elections. They also said that tourist were cancelling reservations by the 1000's at beach areas.
Has anyone heard any warnings etc. to tourist?
We have a trip planned to Mazatlan in November staying at Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay. The report I heard this AM did not give a lot of info but worried me a little.

Where did you hear that? If it was FoxNew channel I'd look for more verifiable sources.

Try cnn. Also check US Government to see if they have issue any warning (it is too eariler anyway),. I don't think it is something that will break out for months.

Ken - I think you will find this report to be extremely inaccurate and not credible at all. We are in constant communication with Mexico every day, and have not heard of one instance of this story.

We book thousands of Members into Mexico and have not had one cancellation as a result of this story which may be nothing more than exaggerated rumor. I myself am going with my family this weekend and certainly wouldn't expose them to any possible situation as mentioned.

In fact our requests for Mexico are at record numbers.

          Mark,
Thanks for the response, it makes me feel better. I wasn't planning on canceling or anything but the report had me wondering what was going on.

Carol, The report was not on Fox news as I usually try to avoid them, it was on CNN. I had heard elsewhere of problems in Mexico City and in Accapulco but this was the first one that specifically mentioned cancellations.

And Jya-ning, I did check the state department site and they have no warnings for Mexico, however the Australian Gov't has been warning their citizens of the protest and telling them to stay clear of them.

Anyway, I don't want to sound alarmist, because I do not usually react that way and I certaintly don't want to get anyone else upset just thought that I would check to see what others have heard.

          Again, thanksfor answering back.
