Anyone been to Mexico without passports lately?

I meant to get the kids' passports before we leave next month, but I have procrastinated and missed the 6 week window. I don't want to pay the expedite fee, and probably missed that anyway.

Last time we were there, people with birth certificates (no passports) had to wait on a separate, even longer line, and were being hassled a bit more by the (corrupt ) customs agents. We got the kids through ok, through.

Anyone notice any recent change with the impending regs?

No, and I hope I don't have problems either. Hubby mistakenly ticketed me with my married name which doesn't match my passport. So I too will be going the birth cert + drivers license route. Hope that will suffice, as the thought of a Mexican jail is rather unappealing. And when it comes time to get back into the USA, if they won't let me, I'd simply say: Como se dice "c'est la vie" en espanol?

There shouldn't be any jail. Usually nothing that the simple question 'Cuanto?' can't fix.
