  • Tropical Storm Paul - Heading for Mazatlan

Checking the computer models this AM, it seems that TS Paul now in Pacific off Mexico is slated to take a hard right turn to NE and hit land near or north of Mazatlan depending on the model sometime Tuesday. They say it will probably reach hurricain status but some of the models show some possible weakening.
I am beginning to think that it is us!!! We were scheduled for Freeport Bahamas last year the week after the hurricain hit there and now we are scheduled to head for Mazatlan 2 weeks from tomorrow. I think I am going to stop scheduling trips in early November!!!! Last year turned out ok for us as there wasn't much damage on the part of the island we were on, but they got hit pretty bad at the west end of GB Island. Maz already rode out one this year without much damage so hopefully this one will weaken or not do much damage either!!

    Ken,
For real, up to the minute updates on how Mazatlán is doing (provided there is electricity and telephone available) join this Yahoo Group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MazInfo/ . Its comprised of locals, ex-pats, and people who like to visit. After the last hurricane there was a lot of general talk about conditions as well as roll calls to let everyone know who was ok and who needed help. Turns out the guy with the power saw was stuck behind a security gate with the power off.

Ken I thought I was the only one.

We went to Grand Cayman in Spring 2004. They were hit by Ivan that summer <the first hurricane there in 100 years>.

We went to Aruba in summer 2005 for 2 weeks. The famous natural bridge collapsed 3 days after we went to see it.

At least these things happen AFTER our visits.

Hopefully the models are wrong and this will be a non-event for Mazatlan.

          Ken,

Hopefully, it will weaken, or maybe even take another turn. I have my figures crossed for you!

          Lawren,

Thanks a lot....the bridge in Aruba had collapsed by the time I got there. You couldn't have waited another year, before visiting......

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Yea!!! Paul weakening more and word from weather sites is that it will be down to Tropical Depression by the time it hits land.
Lawren your post made me smile (sorry at your expense) but although I was beginning to think that bad weather followed or preceded us I have never been accused of being the cause of a "natural wonder" falling down. Good karma comes from smiling!!!
On the serious side it's good news for the Baha and Mazatlan, these small areas that base a big portion of their economy on tourism don't need big hits like hurricanes!!!!
