      El Cid Points for Cruising

      Hi There!

Thought I would let others know that we used our El Cid Vaction Club Points for a Meditteranean Cruise last summer (2007)

We cruised with Celebrity Cruises and we thought the number of points we used for the cruise was certainly reasonable. It was a twelve day cruise and there were absolutely no problems what so ever! Because the cruise program worked so well we ungraded our points last winter.

Can you give us the point used for that and the MF you paid?

        Thanks

I know the cruise was $5400.00 for two but cant remember how many points. Sorry. The El Cid website shows the cruises and how many points they take! No maintenance fee!

Brian, you pay a maintenance fee to own in El Cid, right? I think what Jya-Ning was asking, is how much is your maintenance fee? And I'd like to know if you just use your points or did you have to use a combination of points AND dollars?

Okay, I hope I'm figuring this right (and my husband laugh's at my "girl math". . . .).

As briann said, the El Cid owners website shows different points per dollar ratios for different cabins on different cruises. For example:
              Balcony Cabins

              X - Balcony Guarantee
              $1,149.00
              $550 per 100,000 pts

              D2 - Superior Oceanview Stateroom
              $2,329.00
              $1500 per 100,000 pts

              E2 - Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom
              $2,499.00
              1500

              E1 - Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom
              $2,539.00
              $1500 per 100,000 pts

              Oceanview Cabins

              Y - Oceanview Guarantee
              $1,199.00
              $550 per 100,000 pts

              I - Oceanview Stateroom
              $1,799.00
              1400

              H - Oceanview Stateroom
              $1,829.00
              1400

              Inside Cabins

              Z - Inside Stateroom Guarantee
              $549.00
              550

              Q - Interior Stateroom
              $699.00
              550

              N - Interior Stateroom
              $1,064.00
              550

              M - Interior Stateroom
              $1,079.00
              550

              L - Interior Stateroom
              $1,099.00
              550

              PR - Promenade Stateroom
              $1,119.00
              650

So, let's take that promenade stateroom at $650 per 100,000 points or 15.38 X $1,119 = 172,154 points per person. My particular points cost .006 each. 172,154 points X $0.006 = 1032.92 per person vs the $1119 on the RCCL website. In this particular case, not a lot of savings, but not a bad deal either.

However, looking at the Cat H, Oceanview Stateroom at $1400 per 100,000 points or or 71.43 X $1829 = $130,643 points at .006 = $783 dollars in MF vs. the $1829 on the RCCL website. Now that's an interesting deal!

We used El Cid Points to pay for several cruises in 2007 & 2008. When we used ECVC points to pay for 2009 cruises we were told the policy changed and certain items had to be paid in cash. They included government taxes. I think fuel surcharges could still be paid in points.

Our contract is for 3.4 Million El Cid points per year so we prefer to use as many points as possible on cruises.

I would be interested in hearing from others who have booked cruises with ECVC points privately. I am guessing there are about 20 people in the El Cid Department at IceGallery.com and I would like to compare notes on which agents were accurate, easy to work with and responsive to email. Please PM privately though. Thanks.

                    Bill M

I am a member of El Cid Vacation Club. My advice is to run away from this El Cid Vacation Club. They lied to me to get me to purchase. When I tried to use what they sold me I found out they lied about how they opporate and work. Try getting anyone from their "help desk" to return your call on an issue. They only know how to ask for more money and ignore you.
I have found numerous people that have experienced the same thing I have! Lied to and then ignored. The management team does not care about anything but, getting your money! I filed a complaint with PROFECO (Mexican Better Business Bureau). El Cid no showed on 2 scheduled hearing. Why would a reputable company do that. The reason is they know they can get away with it. PROFECO is a good idea to protect foreigners but have little power.
The EL Cid company is very disreputable!
