Acapulco is a big, urbanized city - - traffic, crowds, and some risk of crime. It's on Acapulco Bay, which is not the cleanest. I don't know the particular timeshare but I expect it's in the city on or near the bay. We stayed at Mayan Palace/Grand Mayan Acapulco which is on an excellent beach about a dozen miles from the center city. We enjoyed driving into the city but we were glad we weren't staying there.

Mazatlan although also a city is much smaller and more managable. Most timeshares have good beach locations and are a short taxi, bus or pulmonia (motorized golfcart) ride from the center city attractions.

I've not been to Puerto Vallarta but I imagine it's even less of a city than Mazatlan, with the same nice Pacific beach.

        Acapulco!!

Thanks to rklein and tonyg, for your help on my questions.I am a big fan of forum people, you are all terrific. We are taking a Mexican style resort at Nuevo Vallarta,Villa Varadero, the beach location is good,Trip Advisor reviews very positive and it should be a great contrast to Mayan Palace,Riviera Maya that we will be in the week before. Thanks again Jim Seedsman
