  • Airport transfer Puerto Vallarta to GM Nuevo

Hi, We are planning a week at GM Nuevo Vallarta. Any suggestions on best way for family of 5 transportation from Puerto Vallarta to Grand Mayan Nuevo Vallarta? I am hesitant to rent a car or is this the best option?

I would also like any suggestions for must do activities. Three teenage boys, we will probably enjoy the resort with a couple of activities.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

I'm pretty sure all the Mayans have airport trans you can arrange. I'm not sure how to do it though...hopefully somebody will post details.

As for activities, with your teenage boys *definitely* go on a trip with Vallarta Adventures. I've gone out with them and they are first-class. They even have zip-lines in the jungle canopy now. Click here for info:

      We used Pamela Thompson

to arrange our car to the GM.

      Her email is <pmt15@hotmail.com>
It was just the 2 of us but Joyce was using a wheel chair and we had 2 extra bags of donation items so we needed something larger than the normal taxi.

With 5 and luggage you will need an SUV or a van.

It worked out great for us as once we cleared customs on the right there are lots of folks holding signs, just found the one with our name and away we went.

Some additional tips, the food at the Sea Garden is much less expensive for dinner and their breakfast buffet is 2 for 1 from 8-9 am (and only $150 pesos),so you can feed the boys without going broke.

Have the driver stop and exchange you dollars for pesos before getting to the GM, as they only give you 10 to 1.

Also you might want to stop at Wal-Mart/Sams Club to get those staple items on the way to save a return trip.

Last but not least, Alex O's ( aka Alejandro at the main bell station), mom makes wonderful tamales.
We ordered 24 assorted ( 6 each chicken and pork with the red or green( very hot) sauce.
She also sent along 2 dessert tamales, and Joyce really like them, so she ordered another 24 of just the dessert tamales.

If you have any other questions, just ask. jmho, Greg

We are returning to the Grand Mayan in March. We like having a car at our disposal to venture north or south. It is also convenient back and forth to the airport and to ride into town for groceries our out to restaurants.

Thank you for all the suggestions!! The tamales sound great and we will certainly try. I would like to take the boys on a zip line tour. Last year without the boys we did a zip line in the Mayan Riviera and it was a ball.

I am considering renting a car. We are so used to this luxury and a couple of trips to town and airport transfer would probably make this worthwhile. Was not sure if driving in Mexico is a problem.

What a wonderful forum with great info. jd2601

Unlike the GM - Riviera Maya, the GM - Nuevo Vallarta does not provide transportation for the airport. We stayed 2 weeks at the GM - Nuevo Vallarta last April. I had asked them about airport transfers and they e-mailed me saying that they had a free shuttle that would pick us up. We waited 45 minutes and no shuttle appeared so we took a taxi. We talked to the concierge at the GM and showed him the e-mail and our taxi receipt. He did not know the person who sent the e-mail and told us that they do not provide transportation. However, they refunded our taxi fare and apologized for the inconvenience.

I would just take a taxi as it is pretty cheap and convenient.

I wouldn't recommend the breakfast buffet at the Sea Garden. We tried it and it doesn't compare to the one at the Grand Mayan. You can purchase a book of meal tickets at the Grand Mayan from the concierge. They come in various packages from 6 breakfasts only to breakfast and dinner tickets. The meal tickets offer a substantial discount. The breakfast buffet tickets were 125 pesos and the dinner ones were 225 pesos. You save a lot more on the dinner because you can use it in their expensive restaurant and it includes drink ( non- alcoholic ), appetizer, entrée, and dessert. We saved over 50% on the dinner tickets.

Sorry but this is old information

As the packets of meal tickets were discontinued in November of 2006 at the Nuevo resorts , they were a great buy.

The breakfast buffets are very similar, the major difference is in the setting, but feeding 3 teenage boys for 75 pesos( $6.90) each versus 190pesos ( $18.25) each is a large enough savings to forgo the ambiance of the Samba or Cafe Del Largo for breakfast, imho.
