  • exchanging into Cancun

Trying for a exchange into one of the Cancun Royals, January 2009. What do you think my chances are? I know the winter months are hard to exchange into Cancun, just wondering how hard of an exchange January would be, I know that February, March as well as the spring months are very hard months for exchanging into. What about January?

    Thanks,
    -Jean

Now is the time to put in your request as many owners there deposit 24 months out.

What are you using to exchange?

I was able to get a New Years 2009 week - I started the search right at 2 years out. If you have a good trader, you may get what you are looking for. The units do get deposited, they just go to ongoing searches and don't show up online any more.

I would add that the earlier in January, the easier the exchange should be.

I placed the exchange request a couple of weeks ago through II. I'm using my summer Foxrun week. We used this week a couple of years ago and received a 2-BR at the Royal Sands in July, 2005. My husband really enjoyed Cancun and especially the Royal Sands. He wants to try for a January week this time. I know that January is going to be harder exchange than July, so I'm keeping my hopes up that the exchange will come through.

It shouldn't be a problem. Best bet would be to go with multiple resorts for multiple weeks, but if you want the Sands and a specific week, your chances should still be quite good. Though high season is weeks 52-16, most of January is not as high demand as 1,6,7,8,13,15 and 52. July was not the easiest to trade into either- a few years ago some July weeks got a bonus week for depositing.

Thanks guys, I'm asking for all the Cancun Royals for 3 January weeks in 2009. If the exchange comes through I'll let everyone know. Keep your fingers crossed for us.

To eliminate the possibility of a non-ocean view room, you might eliminate the Royal Mayan and Club International from you list of resorts requested.

I agree - Club I was nice but I wouldn't want to stay there - too far away from everythig else and the shuttle only runs every 2 hours.

I would argue that VCI is quaint, and quiet, though And if the ocean is rough at the other Royals, the bay at VCI is a nice calm alternative.... I would consider VCI for a nice quiet getaway, without the kids. Too quiet there for my kids, though.

We had a friend stay there during Presidents week...it is definitely an older crowd with a few young granchildren in tow.
We went and spent the day and the kids we were with were literally the only teen, tween kids we saw - and we stayed for the evening dinner BBQ, too.

Maybe with the end of the 30 year contract and many choosing not to take the 're-buy' deal, there will be an influx of new, younger owners/families at the resort.
