  • Has anyone here exchanged into Hacienda Del Mar, Cabo?

I know we have at least one enthusiastic owner here, but I am wondering about the experience of anyone that has exchanged in here recently.

Also, it sounds like the beach is not swimmable, is that true?

    Thanks

the beach is beautiful... its technically in a part that is 'not swimmable' I believe (I remember reading that before going...) but the resort puts up flags to tell you when its safe or not safe to swim. There were some people in the water when I was there, but we only went down to the beach itself once because the pools are amazing, and when your in the infinity pool you feel like your right on the beach itself...

Are you the enthusiastic owner or an exchanger because you sure are making it sound nice!

        Busted

Amanda, you are a dear... but I already knew your opinion...
I am a little concerned after reading some negative/lukewarm reviews elsewhere, was hoping to hear from 4Ms exchangers...but I do thank you for the beach info. Sadly, it's just not the same for me to have to be in chlorine rather than the lovely sea....

And I was mostly teasing you...

since noone else is jumping in, Amanda do you know if exchangers are put in 'no view' rooms, etc.. or how the resort assigns units? Any idea if the two bedrooms with full kitchens are located in a particular part of the resort?

When I reserve a room for trade-in; I reserve the view as well, for example, the 1BR I traded for 2007 was ocean view; the one I reserved for 2008 President's Week for trade in was Garden View.. that's all they had left by the time I reserved.. So, that would lead me to believe that you get the specific view that the trading owner reserved..

You can go onto their website to see the layouts of the rooms, you mentioned the 2BR unit .. if that's the Presidential Room, it's very spacious (that's the one we own); and there are certainly plenty which have ocean views.. I think you can also get a map of where the buildings are on the property on the website as well.. perhaps you can try calling to see how it works when you trade-in, the timeshare office personnel have proven to be very helpful to me.

I was there this time a year ago. I thought it was great. I had a 2 bedroom and when I asked for a view was given the option of trading it for a studio, I don't think it was a busy week. I think you are unlikely to get a view unit. I liked that it had a full size fridge and extra bathroom.

I spent every day I was there under a palapa at the beach. This was my favorite beach area of the 5 or 6 places I've been in MX. It was very quiet, there was an occasional vendor and the beach isn't as wide as at the resorts on the Pacific side so you could hear the waves. The pools are gorgeous and there several restaurants on site so we didn't leave.

I'd go again in a minute if not for the 1 in 4.

We just bought a 1BR executive suite there as we got a phenominal price. I had checked with a few people OY and the concensus is that exchangers typically don't get the view. The resort reserves those for the owners. It's supposed to have a great pools. It's part of the Sheraton hotel and that has gotten great reviews. The restaurant's supposed to be good but a bit on the pricey side.

Hacienda Del Mar Vacation Club - Los Cabos

Holy Cow, I just checked this out thru a link on the SFX website - this looks REALLY nice.
I am hoping to exchange thru SFX for Grand Mayan Cabos in early 2009 but I would totally accept an exchange into this resort.

And Villa Del Palmar - Arcos resort is very nice too....Glad there are several nice choices out there.

Anything good on that list for May 12-14 check in? I'm waiting for my membership to come thru so I can see it. There are some units for the end of May on RCI too.

I also looked at resale units after getting back last year and was amazed at the high maintenance fees. The other thing to consider when booking there is that it is a ways out on the corridor and I think you'd want a car if there for any length of time.

We traded into HDM for our 40th anniversary in October 2004. I loved our large accommodations there. I remember lots of ceramic tile and going downstairs for the bedroom (which was different!) I also remember that the matress was very comfy! We had maid service daily; the staff was friendly; and the views at the pools and hot tubs were awsome. We enjoyed some great tours; rented a car and dined in wonderful restaurants throughout the area. I got a kick out of the fabulous yachts at the marina. I'd return to Cabo and grab another trade at HDM in a heartbeat! We even got bumped at SJD by AA. To pass the time, we were given a voucher for transportation to an all-inclusive resort with a room for the day. It was an anniversary I will recall with fond memories and a great week! There are pictures of the resort and area below.
