  • Mexico - end of May

We are looking to go to Mexico the end of May 2009 and looking at what are the best options on places to do and to get a good trade with SFX. We will need at least two two bedroom units for the number of family folks that want to go.

I would request one of the Grand Mayan resorts. They are awesome and pretty easy to get through SFX. We have stayed at the Grand Mayan _ Riviera Maya ( 2 BR Unit ) and the Grand Mayan - Nuevo Vallarta ( 1 BR Unit ). Both stays were for 2 weeks back to back. We also have a confirmed reservation for the last 2 weeks in April 2008 at the Grand Mayan - Riviera Maya.

The Grand Mayans are in various locations in Mexico. Which location is best is hard to say as it depends on your preferences. Personally, I would choose Nuevo Vallarta. It is a great resort, fine beach, and lots to do. We are going back to the Riviera Maya location to see some of the things we couldn't on our last visit due to a tropical storm. I like the resort at Nuevo Vallarta better but there are more cultural things to see at the Riviera Maya. One of the major pluses with Nuevo Vallarta is the good beach which doesn't exist at Riviera Maya.

How is Cancun that time of the year and does SFX have access to inventory there?

It is hot and humid in May in Puerto Vallarta and often smoggy too. I don't know about the east coast.

It's pretty hot in Cancun and I think SFX could get you something there. If you want quiet. look for the Grand Mayan or Royal Haciendas south of Cancun. If you want the public transportation, night life or cosmopolitan feel, go for a Cancun Royal. The beaches in Cancun are awesome.

What is hot? How is mid March? Are spring breakers a problem?

It will be pretty hot and humid. I have been able to exchange into both the Grand Mayan - Riviera Maya and the Royal Mayan in Cancun more than once through SFX with no trouble. I received 2BR units at both the Royal Mayan and Grand Mayan.

Hot is when you sweat all day. Spring is OK- sometimes very windy in early March and there will be lots of kids of all ages around. April is better- great weather - but the beginning of sea lice season. It starts heating up late in April.

                  Cabo San Lucas?

I've been to Cabo San Lucas mid Mid May (week 21) a few times and it's not too hot, but hot enough for swimming, etc., not humid, and it's cooler in the evenings. It's another alternative.

Hot enough to feel very little energy to do much of anything during the day so a cool pool feels very refreshing. We are not sun worshiping people so stay out of the sun as much as we can.

I don't like when it is so smoggy either and we live in the smoggiest area of this country but Puerto Vallarta is far worse and I can prove it with the pictures I have from our two visits in May that are not posted in my albums as it would shock you. The smog in PV compares to our smoggy skies of the 1960s here. JMHO. They need to get cleaner cars and I believe that they have started this now finally but it will take many years to get the older cars off the roads. The bay will look so beautiful without the smog. We are going within two weeks or so but it will still be hot and humid. We much prefer going there during the winter months.
