  • banned from mayan palace?

we recently stayed at a mayan palace and we agreed to take the tour to get 10 percent and 50 dollars off our room charges as well as free breakfast and bottle of kahlua. Our sales rep was polite but one of the manager/closer people seemed to get very upset when we said we were not very likely to buy. He made a point to tell us that he had the power to have us permanently banned from coming to any mayan again. I told him I didn't think that would be a very nice thing to do and asked why he would want to do such a thing. He said something about coming to the resort though rci and not paying them for what stay was worth and we shouldn't be allowed to go back if we didnt give him our business(ts purchase). Has anyone been banned from mayan.

Sounds like sales scare tactics to me! RCI does have a 1 in 5 rule with the Mayan group. If you have been to any of their resorts you can not return for 5 years, but that's the only restriction that I am aware of.

That applies only to trades through RCI. With other exchange companies you can return as often as you like. Same thing, of course, if you rent from an owner (or from the resort).
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

      “You shouldn't wear that body.”

If his lips moved it mustn't be true. I read a review at trip adviser that was similar for a different resort in Cabo. The couple left on their own even once the front desk said they didn't have to leave.

dustin....That's ridiculous. I would have complained to management, and possibly even reported them. Not sure who to report them to, but I would have found out.

That is not an uncommon event at timeshare presentations in Mexico. It is not limited to just the Mayan Palace. We met a young couple in Mazatlan that attended a timeshare presentation where we were both staying. They told us that the sales manager threatened to have them thrown out on the street if they didn't buy. We also saw a similar thing at another timeshare in Puerto Vallarta.

We never do timeshare presentations anywhere.

Why go to these presentations you are on vacation and are there to have a good time not to waste half a day to listerning to a half head sales person give your a hard time and if that one can not get you to buy they hand you on to the next quarter head sales person to give you a harder time
We own a timeshare in the first place to get there how dare they stick it up you for not buying it is only a hard sales pitch to make you feel small and give you headack for the rest of your holiday

Personally, we like going to these presentations. We like looking at all the different programs and getting the gifts. We would never worry about anything that the salepeople tell me. They are there to sell and have no problem telling you lies, so we ignor their lies.

Don't sell your self to cheap when signing up for a tour. Some of the Mayans are offering up to $350 for a sit. We will catch the Mayan the next time one of their body scathers approachs us.

Our first Mexican exchange was for the Nuevo Vallarta Mayan for New Years about 6 or 7 years ago. We did their tour the next year.

We tell them right up front we are there to check out the resort for exchanges and for the cash and do not plan on buying. Of course they can sell you and they will try any means possible to sell and soak you. But knowlegde is power.

We picked up a extra $700 0r so for doing 3 tours while in Puerto Vallarta this past Sept 18 to Sept 28.

On one tour for $250 cash we did really good timewise and I had some fun dishing it back to the sales staff.

First took about 45 mintues or so to tour the resort and have their "warm up" lunch.

Then we were passed onto the first salesman who they said was one of their top people. After about 10 minutes the salesman got stupid and tryed to (BS)impress us with his great timeshare knowlegde but he said the RCI "pick program" which is a "Fairfield" program and not a RCI Program.

I told him with a "little bit of conviction" to bring one of the laptops over and I would prove him wrong for a $1,000 bet as I pulled out $1,000 US and put it on the table.

He got mad and slammed his BS book shut but was unwilling to match my bet and left the table. So after about 5 minutes another sales guy came over.

I told him before he had a chance to speak that seeing they employed people like the first salesman that I would not buy from that type of company who said that was one of their top people. I said I doudt if Pertecto(?) who think much of that saleman. Bingo, he rolled over. It took only 5 more minutes total to be passed on to the next guy.

He was older than me and was a retired aluminum siding sales guy and was going to sell me the "Trading Places" program. I let him talk for about 4 mintues then I told him for about 4 minutes that I knew about Trading Places.

I informed him that had I had done some stuff with Trading Places after learning about them on the websites like Ts Forums and Tug. I explained for about 2 minutes or so about these websites and what I had learned from them about Trading Places. About 1 minute after that we were passed on to the out the door program guy.

I told him while his manager was sitting there that because of the first sale persons actions, I was now become a "Bad Sit" so the salesmanger smiled got up took over to get gifted immediately so we could leave.

I purposely used the term "Bad Sit" once I learned it was the manager listening in on that "Sit". That manager did indeed understand and that is why we got gifted so quick.

So including the "warm up luch" we were out of there with our $250 cash in less than 90 mintues and had a chance to tour the Club Veltus(?). Maybe we will trade into their fancy resort at some point.

Mayan Palace in Riviera Maya was one of the hardest sell, longest and most annoying timeshare presentations to which I've ever been. Still, I was out of there in 90 minutes after a scornful look by the manager. Normally, I go for the freebies, and I usually am out of the presentation in under a half hour. During that time, it's mostly me educating the salesperson about timeshare, which I am happy to do for anyone here, on vacation, online, in person or by telephone. So, I'm fine with going to presentations for the freebies.

Usually, I hold out for some pretty good gifts before I am willing to go. I presume it will take 90 minutes, so the freebies must be worth at least $600 ($400 an hour) before I consider it worth my time while on vacation.

For us, there is no amount of money that they could offer that would entice us to go to a sales presentation. Though the Grand Mayans have a terrible reputation for their presentations, they did not bother us about attending a presentation at either of the Grand Mayans in Riviera Maya or Nuevo Vallarta. The Royal Mayan in Cancun kept trying to get us to go to a presentation every day that we were there.

No, we used 130,000 points (using only white weeks for the weeks for RCI Points programs) for the 2 RT fares that cost about a total of $520 for both tickets or about $260 from Milwakee with a stop over in Phoenix(?) Az.

We had not been to PV for about 3 years. Big change in the airport as the bank has moved and I think there was about at least 200 body snacthers in that airport arrival building. Maybe because that time in September we were told is a slow time.

But when we come out for our Ocober 18, 2008 checkin date for the 2 bedroom Carlsbad Inn we exchanged into hopefully we I can score another 4 tickets.

Maybe we should fly in on a Monday through San Deigo as we were told that a lot of times it is over booked if you fly through Denver. That worked the time you were so very kind to come down to the Coranado Beach Resort several Easters ago and take us up to Carlbad, etc and bring us back. Thank you so much.

But that week is a week 42 and we may have to use one of our several week 42's that we own in Las Vegas. In fact a week from Sunday we are going out to Vegas. We traded into 2 bedroom at Westgate.

We did rent out our 2 bedroom at Cliffs this 2007 week but not our one Bedroom Summer Bay for that same week.

My brides sister & husband is coming out to join us at Westgate for the weekend of Oct 25, 26 & 27. We did the Westgate tour in Branson last year in honor of TonyG. If we have rented it before we go then we may spend part of that week on the strip. It will work out.

I like checking out resorts and getting paid for it plus the fun of dealing with the salepeoples presentation, especially in Mexico were they pay more. Seeing that I am retired and my bride is retired but doing a teaching job share we can take timeshare vacations that are longer than a week.

Its sort of funny as they seem to think us "Hicks" from the midwest are easy scores.
