It was just from a guy on the street. I kept saying no and he kept sweetening the pot. What really closed the deal for me was that we had just gotten back from Cozumel. I made a special trip to the Hard Rock Cafe to get some glasses for a friend who collects them from all over the world. My sister insisted on holding the glasses while I spoke with the guy. She accidentally kicked them over and they broke while we were talking, and he told me that he had some people on Cozumel who would go there and get me four new glasses if I went to the presentation. So, that, plus three tickets to Xcaret, round trip transportation to and from Xcaret, tequila, hammocks, T-shirts, Grand Marnier, Free dinner for three in Cancun, a refund on the round trip fare to Cozumel and car rental there, and a few other things got me to the presentation.

I also gave him my boogie board at the end of the trip that I had bought at a store on Cozumel and did not want to take home, anyway. I forget what I traded for that, as it was a couple of years ago.

Mayan Palace in PVR was horrendous

We went to a timeshare tour of the Mayan Palace in Puerto Vallarta in June of this year. The salesguy started out nice enough but I was sure he was a phoney. My friends were appalled at my obvious displeasure with him, until at the end, when he called them liars when they said they couldn't afford his timeshare. He stood up and challenged me to prove they couldn't afford his place. And to add insult to injury they split the money they were to give to both couples in two even though they had promised to give us each the cash. It took us four hours of our vacation to extridite ourselves from this guy and I was more annoyed at my friends than the salesman. I knew what to expect but for $50 and a breakfast I had to listen to him bs for four hours.

I was also told I would be banned from future presentations and a note would be put in their computer system not to allow me to be gifted in the future at any of their resorts when I toured the resort in the Mayen Riviera.

I then stayed at the Mayan Palace in Acapulco about a year and half later and they practically begged me to take the tour at check in. Two days later when they sweetened the pot we did the tour and got everything that was promised.

Being "banned" is just more salesman's BS.

I wish I could get banned by the Mayan Body Snatchers. That bunch are the most annoying group on the planet.

When we stayed at the Club Regina in PV, we walked by the Mayan Body Snatchers on the way to the bus stop and were annoyed every day. After I offered to go to the presentation for $2000 and two first class round trip tickets, they finally stopped (until the next shift showed up ).

            Cheers

I think that the Mayan resorts' presentations are a bit different. They are the hardest sell presentations to which I have ever been. Took the full 90 minutes (but I got out of there in less than 2 hours), and the sales manager tried to shame me into buying. Don't know if I would do that presentation again if I were staying there and they could threaten to evict me and leave me without a room in Mexico for the rest of the week. Frankly, I have no doubt that they would do it if they felt like it.

Sure is B.S just got back from the Grand Mayan in ACA and they again begged us to go to the presentation. We finally agreed and again got everything promised to us after exactly 90 minutes from the time breakfast ended. So we not only were never banned they still want us to come back.

I am positive that after 1 year they no longer keep any records of who attended their presentations previously.

Can't imagine that they would have the power to ban but I also can't imagine enjoying a timeshare presentation.

Once you hit 70 years or more, you are too old to take a timeshare presentation. It doesn't matter if you have the money to spend or not. We are too old now and they won't approach us anymore. It's really quite funny. You walk on the beach and they come to you but when they see your face, they walk away. Old age has some advantages.

Oh but some areas of Mexico let you go as high as 75 years old LOL. That is only for the gifts if you want to buy does not matter what age LOL.

Do not worry you are not banned.....you can go to a Mayan presentation every six months, they do keep records for 6 months but after that you are in the clear. All that nastiness and such is just BS to shame you into buying...you are not banned....but I must say even as an owner there and a person who does enjoy the challenge of timeshare presentations......Mayan is known to be tough, real tough and even nasty.

The updtaes are a tad easier, same dinero, but they can't be as nasty since you own. LOL.

I'd say try again if 6 months has passed but if you are not interested in buying and you can buy much cheaper resale, why put yourself through that but you are not banned. Just a cruel sales tactic.

                        Dear Readers,

Mayan Palace is well know for using high pressure in order to get the prospect into the sale. Phrases like: " this a one time opportunity", "You have to make a decision TODAY", and a large so on are vastly used by timeshares sales people. In conclusion don't let them bait you. They will say and promise not only the moon but the whole solar system if that's what it takes to sell you the membership.

I wouldn't worry about it but next time you go you should try for a Lux or Grand Mayan and then head to the sales office and say HI. lol

Actually, Mayan has waived the 1 in 5 rule for 2012 and 2013.
Many years ago we went to a MP presentation in NV and the salesman said we would be banned as well. We have been back a couple of times since then through RCI but we don't go on their presentations any more. Not worth the aggravation.
