Well it looks like my family wants to try an AI and this resort is one of the best AI out there. So which one do I book NV or PV? I think NV might be nicer but PV is walking distance on the strip.

Which Grand Velas

There is only one Grand Velas and it is in Nuevo Vallarta. The AI is quite high but everyone says it is well worth it. I personally have not tried it.
Then there is Velas Vallarta, cheaper AI, very good though and worth the money. Nice resort, lots of activities. I own 2 units there. It is in the Marina area.
Then there is Casa Velas, lovely quiet, peaceful, top notch, destressing resort. AI a bit more than Velas Vallarta and a bit less than Grand velas. If staying at Casa Velas you do have use of all of Velas Vallarta restaurants etc, included. It is located on a golf course, not on beach but they do have a private beach club they will shuttle you to, free. Casa Velas is adults only.
Since you say taking family and no ages I would say go to Velas Vallarta. Great for all ages. Depending on your stamina and heat tolerance walking from velas in Marina to malecon could be a long walk. I have done it no problem but it is a jaunt. Cheap buses and taxis if you get tired though.Timeshare Addict - Mexico Travel Abounds - Happy Vacations!!

When we stayed at Paradise Village a couple of years ago we took a stroll down the beach. The Grand Velas sure looked deluxe. The security took one look at my sorry ass and would not let us in, even though I was with my lovely wife and son. They told me the only way I would be able to check out the place was a timeshare tour. Some friends of one of the guys I work with have stayed there a couple of times and said it was great. I think it would be great if I had the extra cash that I didn't mind blowing on the expensive AI. I have heard it was really good.

I have visited and even ate at one of the restaurants at Grand Velas and yes it is plush, elegant, wonderful and alll that peole say it is. The service was impeccable. The grounds lovely. I do not believe they even offer timeshare sales there anymore, as I have tried to get one, but no one takes you there, so would have to be resale I guess, and I rarely see those either. The AI is at times really high but like I said they say it is worth it.
I only got to go there as I had upgraded at Velas Vallarta to a bigger unit that I bought resale and part of the deal we made was our anniversary dinner at Grand Velas.
If you can afford the AI, and have the extra cash for it, I say go for it. I know I will at some point spring for it, for sure!Timeshare Addict - Mexico Travel Abounds - Happy Vacations!!

If you do, buy an early contract. Everyone has a high (10%) transfer fee of the original sales price which is different with the earlier Mayan Palace contracts from what I read here.
I am glad to read that the dinner was still good. We had to cancel our February visit so missed all our GV friends who come here every year. We really enjoy our stay and it is a tradition now.
