RM Maya unless you are just hanging at the resort a car is needed. It is not needed in Cancun but IMO I would rent it for the convenience. The cost for the week is less when you figure the cost for transportation to the airport. Plus going from RM to hotel zona will cost you.

You couldn't pay me to drive a car in Cancun, and I drive in New York City with no problem. And I wouldn't want to get pulled over there, either.

It was not bad. Easy getting around there since it is 1 main strip. Oh and BTW I got pulled over and was let go because I was drinking his favorite Beer, Mondelo

I missed the Riviera Maya part- there a car would be handy.

We stayed at the Grand Mayan - Riviera Maya and had no use for a car. We went on tours to all of the sites and took the bus to Playa del Carmen or used taxis.
