  • Cancun - Memorial Day

How would Cancun be over Memorial Day week? What are the good places to get - non AI, from SFX? If we go, there could be three families and looking at 2009 or 2010.

On the hot side. Should be not too hard a trade.
Best bets non AI mandatory would be the Royals and Grand Melia.

How are airfares running to Cancun?

Another Non AI is Club Regina @ The Westin. Just got back from 6 days and posted a review on TripAdvisor.com. May not have posted yet though.

        Cheers

SFX also typically has a lot of Mayan Palace/Grand Mayan available. While this isn't exactly in Cancun, it's only a short drive down the coast. These are non-mandatory AI resorts.

I keep forgetting the Regina - another great resort and even better if you snorkle. How about posting a review here ?

Is there a good travel book for Cancun and surrounding areas? Are there good tour guides, packages, etc. there and what is the cost for renting vehicles?

System will not let me post here in the review board for some reason but I have posted on both TripAdvisor.com and TUG. It may take a day or to for the review to show up.

Correction, I figured out how to get there and the review has been submitted.

                Cheers

                  Thanks for the review, x3skier.

Riverdees, there are all kinds of sites on Cancun. If going to Cancun proper a car is not necessary or even recommended as there is great public transport. My web page below, will get you started if you are looking for Cancun proper - with links to other sites and some idea of what is available.

When should the Royals or Grand Melia start showing up in II for Memorial Day Week - 2009? Are there any rules that I couldn't reserve 2 or 3 units, if they are available?

Not sure about the Grand Melia, but no restrictions at the Royals. If going for 2 or 3 units, best bet might be the tri-Royals as there really isn't much distance between the resorts from end to end. It will also have whatever is deposited available from the 600 + units at the three resorts.

I'd request now. I have 3 units at the Royal Sands for the week after Memorial week this year. I matched 1 unit at about 14 mos another at 9 mos and another during Flex. I matched quickly for the first two...one was literally overnight.

I agree with Tony about the Tri Royals...I just happened to luck out that the second request matched the Royal Sands even though I included the Tri's. I do wonder if II did it purposely because they are both Sands Phase II. The third was from a sighting.

I have never been to Cancun. I did check out some guide books from the library but they really didn't tell me anything I haven't already read about on the Internet. Start reading the Mexico forums here, TUG, Tripadvisor....I did purchase maps of Cancun and Isla Mujeres from "Mapchick" She included a map of the airport...they are pretty detailed...include restaraunt info...I think they will be helpful.

I see you are in Tenn. I just have to mention this because I have family joining us from Atlanta. Airfare from the south seemed really high to me. You are going to need to catch a deal and grab it. I paid about 335.00 for Non stop Los Angeles to Cancun...while my family in the south paid over 600.00 for Non stop Atlanta to Cancun. Its barely a 2.5 hour flight! I looked at airfare for them daily...even several times a day for months. Their unit was the 9 mo out one-so I looked from that point on. It NEVER went down. The best they could have done was around 500.00 with a stop. We were considering flying them out of Charlotte, NC because the airfare was so much better. In the end...we used some FF miles but it just floored me that I could send two people from LAX for the price of one from Atlanta.

                        Good luck whatever you decide

                          Cancun Resorts?

What are the other non AI mandatory resorts that would be good in addition to the Royals, Club Regina 2 The Westin and Grand Melia?

There was a Marriott under construction that would surely be nice if it was available.

We were at the Club Regina two weeks ago and it was very nice. At the end of the "7". About a $20-$25 cab ride to town (or $.65 bus ride).

I wrote a repot on it a few days ago. http://www.timeshareforums.com/forum...un-westin.html
