  • Free WiFi at Mexican resorts

    I want WiFi almost daily.

I think I saw an ad where a year round owner mentioned WiFi at Velas Vallarta. Does anyone know if WiFi is accessible all over Velas Vallarta and if it costs?

Nuevo Vallarta - Mayan Regency/Palace - does anyone know about WiFi there? Last year we spent 8 weeks at Mayan in Maya Riviera and you had to go to the computer area above the boutique and pay $7 an hour for WiFi/or to use their PCs.

In 2007, we had WiFi in our room at El Cid for three months which was nice. But when we were at Torres Mazatlan I had to take my laptop to the patio near to office to pick up the WiFi signal. I couldn't get it at the pool area.

    Our 2008/2009 schedule:

    Mazatlan for October 2008
    Inn at Mazatlan
Pueblo Bonito Mazatlan (not Emerald Bay)
another resort w/o WiFi but the nearby resort has it

    Puerto Vallarta/Nuevo Vallarta - 1 Nov - 15 Nov
    Nuevo Vallarta - 1-15 Nov
    Plaza Pelicanos - 15 Nov - 22 Nov
    Nuevo Vallarta - 22 Nov - 20 Dec
Villa Del Palmar 20 Dec - 3 Jan
    Vellas Vallarta -3 Jan - 28 Feb

    Mazatlan - March 2009

    Thanks

Clueless to your WIFI question, but wanted to say......Way to go with your schedule. Very impressive!

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

I don't have the answers to your questions. Hopefully someone knows. Or I can report back when I am there.

I have only been to Puerto Vallarta once in 2006. Stayed at Vacation Internationale Vallarta Torre. They had a WiFi connection upstairs in the community room - the signal was weak but usable in the patio. That was my first stay at ANY timeshare.

I met my husband 8 months later in Mazatlan at Torres Mazatlan in December 2007. Then we stayed at El Cid Marina Yacht Club Jan-April 2007.

My husband has been wintering over fours months a year in Mexico since about 1982. Make sense of his collection of TS properties is a challenge.

WiFI is available at Velas, in lobby by pool, and in rooms. Last time I was there ( but I was on an exchange) there was a charge if you wanted it in room, maybe in lobby not sure, but it was about $50 US for the week. I will be there in JULY this year, few weeks, as a member so will let you know on the WIFI exactly.

Am an owner at Mayan but did not utilize WiFI, I know they have an area for it, but not sure if it costs.

                Other Wi-Fi Options in PV

We just returned from PV and used "free" wifi daily--but not in the resorts we stayed at. If you are near the Marina--at Velas Vallarta--you can get free wifi at the coffee shop "Once Upon a Bean". There is also free wifi at the Starbucks downtown where you can sit forever if you purchase a drink. The other Starbucks in the PV area also have free wifi.

Across from Villa del Palmar at the shopping center where Gigante is located, there is free wifi, but the signal is weak. Stay down at the end closest to Ley's Department Store and you will have a strong signal.

Lots of restuarants downtown and in the Romantic Zone now feature wifi as well as many of the hotels in their lobby. if you buy a coffee or a cervaza you can geneally sit for as long as you need.

                Hope that helps!

The store in front of the Gigante is Lans, not Ley.
I have used the internet shops that are on the outside of that mall, and you can pay by the hour, or get a large package.
Villa del Palmar has wifi in the lobby, but there is a fee, not cheap.

I of course prefer free WiFi and there are many options in PV outside the resorts, but I prefer to have internet access or wifi in my room or balcony at resort, so sometimes I do pay for it.....hate lugging laptop around town etc....plus like to check emails and such when I am in mood etc....

Velas charges for wifi, by the hour, day or week.....$50. US unlimited for the week....available in lobby, by the pool, business center and in some rooms....also some rooms have (I think called DSL) DSL, and they will loan youan ethenet cable and if you return it no charge, if not then 300 peso charge...

Hopefully they have a monthly rate for less than $200/month, We still have reservations for Velas 3 Jan - 28 Feb.

DSL in the room would be nice. We'll arrive in PV on November 1, so we plan to visit Velas & make arrangements to have the same room for the 8 weeks.

Were the TVs at Velas OK? We are debating building a case with wheels and taking a 50 inch plasma flat screen. My husband has macular degeneration thus low vision. He used to take a large satellite dish and most resorts let him put it on the roof. He set up the satellite dishes from the 1980s to 2005 but took it home in 2007.

You are an owner or exchanger? Since you are there for such an extended stay I would ask for a discounted rate on the WiFi. Some of the rooms have Wifi and some DSL ( or something similar, I guess).

The tv's were fine, not 50" plasmas but decent size, many channels, some english , some spanish....also pay for movies, sounds expensive but can watch movie over and over for the day or so others have told me!

We are going to be at Velas from Jan 2-9 and then at Casa Velas from Jan 9-13...would be nice to meet....

Ken has been wintering in Mexico since 1980. Usually at least four months. He doesn't like cold weather. As soon as Northern California gets nippy he has headed south. We went to Mayan Maya Riviera near Cancun last Nov/Dec then took a world cruise.

We will be in Mazatlan October, PV for Nov-Feb 28, then Mazatlan for March. I post my schedule on this page so I can keep track.
                              Schedule

Winter 2009/2010 I hope to plan Australia/NZ/Bora Bora/Phuket/ Official Website of the Palace On Wheels Inc - Book Tickets for luxury train in Rajasthan, India Online for Taj Mahal in India then Hawaii perhaps Jan-March then if it is warm enough a 30 day land tour of China. Then HOME.

Hope to meet you when we are in PV. I have heard great things about Lake Chapella where you live.
