what is a "throw away" cel phone

I am going to Cancun for 2 weeks in October and was told by Verizon they charge at least 69cents minute for roaming plus plus plus...

An manager said "just buy a throw away when you get there..."
Has anyone done this?
What does it cost?

You can buy a cheap pay as you go phone.....usually comes with some preloaded time included in cost....can get one for as little as say 200-300 pesos in my parts and then if need more time than what is included, just buy a card and have someone install time for you....then rather than throwing away.....donate to a needy charity or to a poor soul int he area.....

This is good for your calls in the area but mind you if you are calling home like to states or such...the costs are steep......telephone calls are not cheap in Mexico...
