  • Buganvilias Resort/Raintree's club Regina Puerto Vallarta??

Any opinions as to which of these resorts would be a better choice and why??
Also considering El Cid Moro Tower in Mazatlan as a third option.
    This is for Nov '09..
    Thanks for any help.

Club Regina is your best bet

I have stayed at all three of the resorts that you are considering.

First let's get rid of the easy one. Mazatlan is NOT the same as Puerto Vallarta. It is a very nice destination, but doesn't truly compare to PV if you aren't an avid Mexican vacationer. There is much, much more to do in PV and both of the resorts you listed far outshine the El Cid.

So that leaves us with the two PV resorts...

If you will want to go back and forth to town most everyday and convenience is important, consider the Bouganvillias. You can even walk into the downtown from there, but taking a bus is very easy. The Sheraton is the main transfer point for buses between PV and Nuevo Vallarta.

The resort itself is nice but has more of a hotel feeling than a timeshare feeling. You'll need to do more walking to get groceries, etc. and to go to restaurants. It is also located directly on the main street, although it is far enough back you won't be bothered by traffic noise.

The Club Regina--as I said--would be my pick. First, while not an ultramodern resort, the units are spaciuos, there are lots of activities and the grounds and pools are all very, very nice. It is the nicest of the three resorts by far. The beach is also nicer than that at the Sheraton. And the resorts grounds are much more resort inspired. You will feel a million miles from the city, although it's only about 3/4 mile to the main street.

Club Regina is located in the Marina district. It's a very good location for access to lots of great marina restaurants, including a timeshare members favorite, Victor's Tecuba. You can catch a bus out in front of the timeshare or anywhere along the street about every 20 minutes. Not as many as at the Sheraton, but still enough to suit your needs. If you feel hearty, you can also walk to the main street. I have a bum knee and still do it in about 10-15 minutes.

My wife and I go downtown to PV everyday and still love staying at the Marina. The very slight incovenience of having to wait a few minutes extra for the correct bus is--to us--far outweighed by the much nicer surroundings.

There will probably be people who say I'm full of hot air and disagree becuase they love one or the other of the timeshares you are also considering, but, trust me, they are wrong and I am right.

Thanks PT for your info on those resorts. If picking PV I was kind of leaning towards the club Regina although we do like to go into town a lot wherever we are. We don't tend to hang aroung the resort a lot except on days we decide to use the pool a lot.
We have been to Mazatlan before and we really like it there, but have not been to PV yet.
You had said that you have also stayed at El Cid moro Towers, how does that match up with the other two??
      Thanks again for the info.

I too like Mazatlan, but have never stayed at El Cid.....

If you have never been to PV, then why not give that a try....thought we go to both places Maz and PV, we go to each for different reasons and different likes...they are both very nice places.

I hear good and bad on Bouganvillas.....but it is convenient, personally have never stayed there as yet...

The Marina in PV, oh I love staying in the Marina.....little more distance to downtown PV, but the Marina is lovely. Transportation is cheap and easy via bus or taxi. ( We have a car so never an issue for us, except the traffic LOL).

I personally would opt for the Regina in the marina........JMHO!

If you like Maz. I think you will really enjoy PV. Though they are very different from each other...they are both unique in their own way.

Where have you stayed in Maz???

Thanks for the info. I think that we are leaning towards trying PV and probably will take the Rigina as the marina sounds nice and seems like from what people have said bus transportation is easy. That is one of the things we liked about Maz was using the buses and going in to "old town".
In Maz we stayed at the Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay and think that is great. Even tho it is out a bit further, the shuttle bus they run to their sister resort in town makes getting around easy as you can then take the local buses or if necessary grab a pulmonia.
          Anyway thanks again.

Yes bus transport is easy. The PB Emerald Bay in Maz. is a beautiful resort. I would say the Marina and Regina are closer to town then PB Emerald Bay. Least I feel it is....I am a walker so I can walk from marina to town etc....but it is a distance....

I hope you enjoy PV..let us know...
