  • I am a former TIMESHARE EMPLOYEE IN MEXICO

    Greetings to you all,

I am a former employee of a large timeshare company in Mexico. I know all the lies, misrepresentation and deceitful sales pitch they use to scam people who purchase in good faith.

Let me explain you how it works.

The presentation would start by telling the clients that they need to give us a decision at the end. Then, we would have breakfast and ask questions as far as their traveling needs.

In the sales pitch, we were encouraged to offer a rental program (we had a training to learn how it works) where the new owner had the option to rent the weeks they would not use and use the rental money to pay for the timeshare. Also, if the client had a previous timeshare, a broker (Great Sales and Rentals*) would buy it from them so they would not accumulate timeshares. This was a big part of the sales presentation and many of my costumers were excited about these options.

I found latter these two options which made the clients very interested in becoming part of this timeshare, were blatant lies and a fraudulent sales pitch to get people to buy. Then, I started hearing rumors of colleagues making fun of costumers, jokes like "yeah! Like it is going to be rented", "suckers! They bought everything I pitch them!", or the manager stating in one of the meetings: "Sell however you can, we´ll fix it later (It made sense to me later)".

I asked around and confronted my colleagues just to find out that most people in the sales room were part of these scams.
I confronted my sales manager asking him to stop this ordeal and as you might expect, he fired me.

I own a timeshare and have had great memories with my family. Even though the concept of Timeshare is good by itself, some unethical salespeople feel the need to create false expectations, exercising deceitful sales practices just to create an easy buck.

I open this forum and complaint so if you have any questions I can answer please write it down at the bottom and I will answer it with honesty and try to be of help.

*The name of the Rental Company has been change to avoid a potential law suit.

    Welcome to TS4Ms!!!

We all hope that your motives are good and that you will jump to help those in need on this BBS. What do you know about PROFECO and what exactly is needed to fight the lies?
... not enough time for all the timeshares ®

If you believe that you have been defrauded in Mexico because you were told a bunch of lies and your rescission period has run out but you discover the scam after the fact, you can still send a complaint to Profeco within a year, I believe. Here is their web site with the text in English.

          Procuraduría Federal del Consumidor

They will investigate the complaint for you and conduct a hearing with the developer. There have been quite a few occasions that Profeco was able to get the consumer all or most of the money back but it may take a long time because there may be several hearings until they come to an agreement and then Profeco will ask you to accept the offer within a few days. If you don't accept, they will have more hearings.

We have gone through this once but we still own this timeshare because we liked their offer and the timeshare or we wouldn't have bought. They were supposed to send the agreement to us in writing but we never received it and they didn't keep their word either. We didn't feel like starting all over again so we just enjoy our visits there as the contract will run out eventually.

Be very careful when you buy a timeshare here or in Mexico and read the paperwork before you go home. The rescission clause will be hidden somewhere in the paperwork but they will not mention it during the presentation at most resorts here or abroad.

A few years back some of the Mexican resorts would let you sign a waiver that you agreed that you could not rescind your contract because you had received some type of deal but this is against the law in Mexico. It was then and it is still today. The waiver is no longer mentioned as far as I know.

Here is the web site for Profeco with general information about buying a timeshare in Mexico.

Are the places you listed at the bottom where you were employed as a salesperson, or where you own?

If you are for real and will help us fight these bandits, I will put my hat off to you. Are you familiar with the Belaire Golf Resort and Spa in Puerto Vallarta?

You can read the progress here and it sounds pretty grim to me.

Once we were for dinner at a nice restaurant in PV where locals go more than tourists. We were taken there by a local friend as it was quite far from our resort in Nuevo Vallarta. There was a bunch of salesmen sitting together and they were pretty loud. You should have heard how they made fun of the suckers they had sold that day. It almost sounded to me that they were from different resorts. These were fellow Americans or English speaking people defrauding the American tourist. I almost felt like getting up and tell them off but my husband didn't want a scene.

Spence, please do not insult my intelligence. I do not understand why you are questioning my integrity. this is a post not a requirement for an highschool exam.

I will answer help with my answers explaining how the timeshare sales system works.

No one said anything about your intelligence, with only two posts we cannot judge you on that, maybe with ten we can. You seem to think you're the first Timeshare salesman to appear on this BBS, far from it.

                      Dear Iconnections,

Several resorts such as Mayan Palace, Krystal and Sunset still make you sign this waiver. they are very clever because they do not give it to you in the paperwork so you do not have a written proof that your right was violated.

This are the timeshares that as far as I know, allow deceitful sales practices to their employees to sell their costumers.

These are very well articulated people who will have a smile on their face and a knife on their hand. Some drink heavily and use drugs. I don´t know what is on their minds making fun of people who give their monies in good will.
