  • Trading Company for Puerto Vallarta

I'm trying to come up with the best approach for trading for a January week in "downtown" Puerto Vallarta.

It is pretty obvious that my primary company, II, is not the way to go, and we don't have any weeks to trade via RCI.

From their site, it looks like SFX would be OK if we wanted the Mayan Palace complex in Nuevo Vallarta, but that is kind of out of the way as far as we are concerned.

So, which of the other independents is likely to give us the best shot at trading for a week in central Puerto Vallarta?

If the Marina is close enough in for you, SFX is still a good option.

That's precisely what I was thinking. SFX also gets a pretty fair amount of Club Regina inventory as well. If I were staying in the Marina, I would take Club Regina over Mayan Palace without hesitation.

We just got back last night from Club Regina PV and I would second TR's thought about Club Regina over Mayan Palace in marina. We really liked Club Regina.
It was easy getting around from marina, we took city buses. That being said, when I go again, I think I will try to get someplace in closer.

Interesting and welcome thoughts. I will add that a private e-mail conversation with Mark at SFX suggested that I had a much greater likelihood of arranging a trade if I would accept the NV Mayan Palace.

Does anyone care to take a shot at answering my specific question?

            Thanks

We might be able to give you more help if you responded to our questions about Marina Vallarta as an option.

My preference is to be in closer to the main part of the city.

The Marina Vallarta would be acceptable, but probably only after I was sure that a more central location was impossible. On a previous trip to PV, we spent our first week in the NV MP, and the second week in the Marina area, and that was a world better as far as location. However, I now know how much more there is to be gained by being in closer to town.

I better add that a full kitchen is also a high priority; that won't be hedged for anything less than a central PV location. Yes, I am aware that real kitchens are not a sure thing in Mexico

If you're going to be that specific I don't know if any particular exchange company is going to have an advantage. The only think I can suggest is to ascertain which resorts within your target area have full kitchens, then see which exchange companies those properties are affiliated.

That being said, I think your best betwould be to do a direct exchange into Vallarta Torres with someone who is a member of Vacation Internationale.

Have you looked at trading places? I have only been to Puerto Vallarta once so I am not sure exactly where these are but they have a Costa Sur (south of downtown) and a villa del mar in January.

I traded through dial an exchange for Rancho Banderas which is way way north of town. It was very relaxing, beautiful beach but hard to get anywhere. They do have a week at Alta Vista in January.

If you can move your plans up, there is someone on TUG renting and OCho Cascades for Nov 19th for $350

You can rent a 1BR week through an SFX promotion at the Mayan Palace in PV for $800 - no exchange required.
Check out this link SFX Preferred Resorts
It doesn't indicate that you have to do a presentation, but I'm sure you'll get pressured to take one.
Make sure you check out the fine print just to be sure.

For the same price, you can probably rent at the Buganvilias too and the OP is close to where he want to be. They have partial kitchens with a stove top, microwave and fridge.

I have some pictures here for him to get an idea.

Steve - thank you kindly for referring our Mexico rental site, it is appreciated. However, the pricing of $800 is incorrect.

A 1BR unit at Mayan Palace is listed at: $499
A 1BR unit at The Grand Mayan is only: $599 (for the whole week).

Click here for more details: Website

Also... the only TS property I am aware of in PV proper, is Ocho Cascadas. It's way up a very steep hill, and only has 8 units. In reality there's only 7 because the unit on the lower floor is only a 1br and has no pool. (No demand). Odds are not good for exchanging into a property with only 7 units.

I would recommend Club Regina or another one of the nice quality resorts by the Marina area. Believe it or not, we do many exchanges to many different resorts in Mexico.

                          Thanks,

                            Hi Mark:
I followed your link and chose NV/PV and 1BR from the drop down list and then chose an early week in Jan, 2010. Some of the results I get are:
                            Mayan Palace - PV - Jan1-8 - $799
                            GM NV - Jan 1-8 - $899
... and then they do begin to drop to as a low of $499 at the MP as one moves further into the month.
So the actual range in Jan seems to be MP - $499 - $799 and GM $599 - $899.
Still good deals, especially if you're flexible with your dates.

Hi Steve - thanks for the info. I didn't realize you were pricing a major Holiday week. They are priced a little more, but still a great value. All weeks other than Holiday weeks are more in the $499 to $599 for one-bedroom suites, and priced more for 2 bedrooms and major Holiday weeks.

                              Thanks,
