  • Grand Mayan Riviera Maya

    Hi

Does anybody know if there are any maps of the layout of buildings and floor plans for the Grand Mayan Riviera Maya? We have an exchange there for a 2 bedroom unit and I haven't been able to find any. Thanks.

I do not know the building numbers, but the Grand Mayan units are at the top and on the left side of this photo. http://locogringo.com/maps/tour/164a-t.html

Check the Mayan Palace website for information on rooms. Basically, you will have a large living room, kitchen, dining room in the center with bedrooms on each side. The bathrooms in the Grand's are very nice and they have wonderful balconies.

I must say that they are very accomodating there. When we went last year and had 3 2-bedroom MP units reserved, they made a special effort to put them all on the same floor. It made for a much nicer family vacation.

This is a great resort. We plan to go back in February 2007. We are anxious to see how much has been done since the hurricane. We have recently upgraded our MP to GM and will look forward to staying there.

I agree with the previous poster. We were at the Grand Mayan Riviera Maya last fall just before Wilma hit. We had a 2 BR unit. The service is superb and they will do their best to make you happy.

Thanks Pittle and John for the information.

I found a drawing of the rooms at http://www.golfresortmexico.com/cancun.html . To bad the drawings couldn't have been of a better quality.

So far I haven't really heard to much negative about the resort. I think the biggest complaint I've read had to do with the distance between here and there. I looked at an aerial photo at http://locogringo.com/maps/tour/164a-t.html and it does look like you would get some exercise if you stayed there.

Yes - you do get a lot of exercise, but they do have shuttle trolleys to take you between units and pool or road if you want to use them

We actually enjoyed the exercise - it counteracted the vegging at the pool and Corona or Margarita calories. I am not big into exercie (I hate the "e" word myself) but we did walk more than usual and actually felt better when we were there last year. I guess there is something to be said for exercise - other than walking from the kitchen to the home office/den.

We plan to go back there in February 2007 for 3 weeks.

Like Pittle said, the resort is pretty spread out. That was one of the big differences between the Grand Mayan Riviera Maya and the Grand Mayan Nuevo Vallarta. In Nuevo Vallarta the restaurants were very convenient.

Being spread out won't bother us to much. My wife and I get up at 5am during the week and go to the YMCA. I run 3 miles everyday and she lifts weights and does cardio so a little walking won't hurt us.

We got our week through SFX for the week of April 21, 2007. This will be our first trip to Mexico and we're both looking forward to it.

You should really enjoy your stay there. I strongly recommend that you visit the eco-park Xcaret. It is awesome. You can swim in the underground river and the show at night is spectacular. We booked the tour through the travel agent at the Grand Mayan. We also booked a tour to Chechen Itza through them which was pretty good.

I would arrange your transportation from the airport to the resort through the Grand Mayan concierge. The info is on their web site. I e-mailed them 3 or 4 days in advance. The charge is $15.00 per person and it is charged to your room. They sent a private car to take us. I contacted Brant but he was much higher for transportation to the Riviera Maya area. You definitely want to have it arranged in advance as you will be attacked the second you clear customs by people trying to get you to go with them. In reality they want you to go to t/s sales presentations. Just ignore them completely though it isn't easy at times.

Thanks John. Every little tidbit helps. I read about the airport and what awaits you outside on the Playa del Carmen forum so I already knew about that. The tip on the transportation I didn't know about so I'll add that to my list. Speaking of transportation, do you recommend renting a car and if so where?

Personally I never rent a car in Mexico. We far prefer to let somebody else drive us whether it be by bus, taxi or whatever.

                      Hi

Got another question. We are planning on taking only carry-on baggage for this trip and we'll want to do laundry sometime midweek. Can someone point out where the laundry facilities are and what's the charge to use the washer and dryer? Thanks.

We used it once in Rivera Maya and in NV. The machines sucked. It took forever. After wasting half the day to do the load the woman that is in charged not only watched the loads but folded the cloths for us. You have to purchase special coins from them I believe it was about $3 to was and about the same to dry but I can not recall for sure.

Thanks bigfrank. Maybe we should rethink the carry-on plan because I don't want to spend half a day of my vacation in a laundry room. On another note, do they have a laundry service and if so would it be worth it?

bigfrank - Where's this spell checker you refer to in your signature?

Not sure if it is a service. Are you talking about when they leave a laundry ag in the closet. If so I did not use that service.

As far as the Spell checker goes, Hit reply you will see a a check mark with ABC below it.

My wife used the laundry facilities at both the Grand Mayan Riviera Maya and also in Nuevo Vallarta. I forget the cost at the GM Riviera Maya. It seems like it was about $8.00 USD for the washing and drying. At the GM Nuevo Vallarta it was $25.00 USD for the same thing. The laundry facilities are in the same building as the units. I am not sure if there is one in each building as they had one in the building where we were on the 2nd floor.
