  • La Tranquila/Punta Mita.. Scam or not?

Anyone have any experience with this resort. The resort is gorgeous however, the whole situation sounds like a scam from the start.

We were offered $500.00 usd to come and visit the place. SInce we already are owners of 3 time shares and would like to unload one of them we decided to take the tour. Knowing how these people operate- we should have known better

We were there for 6 hours. They started at a price for fractional ownership @ $250,000 for several weeks, maybe 8 weeks a year. Not for us!!
Then when we were ready to walk- the closer came in to make us another deal.. we kept saying no.. they tried to intimidate us.. pressuring us even more. Finally, there final offer was to take in our other property as a write off for them, since it was "tax season" and they called it "double dipping. In exchange they market our property, sell it to Mexicans who needed to own property in the US to get a Visa and give us a check for the retail value of our TS, $16,000. Plus 2 weeks every other year for a studio, 1 week we can trade and 1 week use, off season, plus exclusive membership in their preferred memberships for 4 weeks a year. Places included the Four Seasons. Plus, they would market our property if we chose not to use it one year. we would receive a check for $3000. Sounds great, doesn't it.. and NO maintenance fees - only when you book your week. You pay one fee for the week you use.

We also found out that the salespeople work for a "marketing company" hired by the developer. The actual resort does not back up any of this, making it quite clear that the marketing company is separate entity from the property.
The management company that would "market" your property is also a separate entity from the sales people. Sound like a bait and switcH???

Does anyone have any experience with these people???

BTW- we did get our $500.00 but in pesos!!

    Thanks.

Don't have any direct experience with "these people" at this resort but it is basically the same at most Mexican resorts....Same old sales techniques. If their mouths are moving, they are lying. Sometimes not a bad way to get rid of your unwanted timeshares as most will take them as a trade in giving you full retail value against a new purchase at their resort, but you are still paying way too much as you can probably purchase for the price of the transfer fee from an unhappy owner. Transfer fees can be a % of the original purchase price or a fixed amount....

Some similar deals have left buyers with the timeshare ownership(s) they supposedly sold to the resort/marketing company. Getting out of such a deal is both time consuming and difficult, if not impossible.

This is nothing but lies. First, owning property in the US does NOT make it any easier for a Mexican to get a US visa. That is just an outright lie as are their other statements.

We sent them a cancellation letter - which they have accepted- supposedly. They claim they will credit us our deposit. Ww will see....

If it sounds too good to be true....

Owning a timeshare does not make it any easier to get a visa for a Mexican absolutely ridiculuos.

Make sure they give you cash, pesos or dollars for the timeshare they are taking off your hands, we did this once at another resort, guess who still owns the timeshare, we do....good thing it was not critical for us to get rid of it....
