  • Grand Mayan on Shermans Travel

I Smell a big stinky RAT

This week I got Sherman's Travel Top 25 and on it was a Grand Mayan ad special to click on. I did click on it and got www.mexicomayanresorts.com
It is operated by Resort Rental LLC out of Indiana. The principal broker is John Lawerence Hertwick. This looks to be a subsidary of RCI.

I wonder how this will affect RCI members trades into the Grand Mayan. Maybe RCI really has more control than they are saying about how so many exchangers though RCI have been booted from the Grand Mayan to the Mayan Palace. Oh what a web they weave.

Not cheap, unless there's a special deal I didn't notice. I have a 2-BR booked via an RCI exchange.

Here's their charge for 1-BR in prime time:

Resort: The Grand Mayan Nuevo Vallarta, Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico
Arrival Date: Thu, Mar 8th, 2007
    Nights: 7
    One room, guests: Adults: 2
Room Rate: 315.00 USD per night , 2,205.00 USD per stay

Not at all cheap, but with RCI's reputation of cancelling or downgrading Grand Mayan's to the Mayan Palace, this illustrates my point. If they can rent out the exchange you already confirmed they make a couple of thousand extra dollars. There were lots of complaints of cancelled exchanges with RCI in the past and this may be a good explanation of the real reason corporate greed We wanted to go to the Grand Mayan and didn't want to get bumped (For Spring Break) So we made the trade through SFX after some good advice on this site.

Well, after just being through a presentation

At the GM in Nuevo, they have a rental deal that GM owners can give their weeks to called Elite Rentals. It is an RCI company, and they do charge lots for these weeks, and the owners get between 150%-400% of their annual mf, depending upon season, size, etc.
Don't get me wrong, I am in no way defending RCI or any of it's sleazy practices, but there is now a legitimate rental for owners of the GM.

Greg are you sure that the rentals are going into the Rci pool and not the ICE pool. GM deals with ICE if I am not mistaken.

            As positive as possible

We ugraded our Ebay 2+2 MP purchase to a 2+2 GM, and the new deals are Elite Rentals, Profile A status ( we can reserve 12 months out) , Maz Pac( we can have 2 weeks at any Seagarden for just the annual fees) SeaPac( same thing for the MP resorts), some Elite Trading Collection( top 100 resorts in RCI, also an RCI program), a free year with SFX (platinum), and the biggies, no fee if you don't use, free roll over into the next year, and 50% fees at 75 , 0% on your registered weeks from 77 on.
