  • Grand Mayan Nuevo Vallarta Questions

3 and 1/2 weeks to go and my family and I will be at the Grand Mayan NV. This is our first visit to Mexico and we are quite excited. We are not owners, but exchanged through RCI for a 2 bedroom unit. Thus, I understand that we will likely not get a pool/ocean view room. If we agree to do the timeshare presentation, we will get the pool/ocean view room? What is typically offered for the timeshare presentation? I'd prefer to skip it, but would do it for a better unit.

Second, I understand there is a lot of construction noise at present. If we had a choice as to room, would it be better to get the pool view or golf course view in light of the noise or doesn't it matter.

Finally, how does one take the bus into Puerto Vallarta to see the old part of town and have dinner? Thanks. Tim

First off you will love the place. You will not believe your eyes when you see the pool.
Now about the tour. Unless you have 6 hours to spend do not take the tour. It is extremely high pressure. If you currently have a 2 bedroom Grand Mayan then you have there best room with or with out the view. They will offer you a 15% discount on what ever food you buy there if you take the tour but I have seen them screw that up with not crediting back all the discounts. The food and service are both excellent in NV as well as the activities. You will have a great time there. I also recommend you do the 2 dinner shows they do there. If you want a nice romantic evening talk to the Concierge and have them make reservations for you at the restaurant that over looks PV. Now if you want to tour the area. Grab a cab and work out a private deal with him. They tend to be just out side the MP parking lot.

      There are only 2

2 bedroom ocean view units per floor per building, so getting one of them during prime season is very unlikely.

They may offer a one bedroom OV, as there are 18 of them on each floor of each building.

The construction noise was not any bother at all. They start about 7am break for lunch at 1pm and quit most nights by 6pm.

We hardly heard any noise for the site.

The discount now is 10% of most items and a 1000 peso credit.

Depends upon what you spend at the resort, could be worth up to $400-500 total if you take in the two beach parties and eat a lot of your meals.

The ATM bus runs into PV and stops right out from Wal-Mart. It leaves from just south of the Sea Garden( about a 10 minute walk from the GM).It costs about 12 pesos one way.

From there you catch another bus ( el centro) It costs about 5 pesos one way.

Be sure to ask the bell staff for the PV map.

        Tim,

Looks like I may just miss you. I am checking in on 4/22 for two weeks. I'm really looking forward to it.

I also have a two bedroom. I will just plan on not having an ocean view so as not to be disappointed. If I get lucky, well then oh boy ...

Sounds like the timeshare tour is one to pass on.

What is the easiest way to/from the airport?

        Linda

Linda, I too don't expect to get an ocean view, but am hopeful for a golf course view instead of the garage view. I plan to go straight from the airport to the resort arriving around 2:30pm and will try to check in early and request a nice view. Wish me luck. Actually, you may have a better shot on it given you are not there on Easter week.

With respect to the airport transportation there are many options. If you are an owner at Grand Mayan, which I am not, you get free transportation from the airport to the resort (but not returns to the airport). Exchangers, like me, can use the Grand Mayan resort transportation at $11 USD per person. Or, you could simply take a cab, which is what I may do. Or, there are a number of companies that offer airport transfers for about $10 per person. I did find one that has a flat $35/hour rate and recommends we use them for a quick orientation of the area, maybe a stop at Walmart (which I will pass on) and then drop off at the resort. That is tempting to do as we are first time visitors to the area. Even if we do 2 hours ($70) it is only $20 more that hiring one of the other companies. The least expensive may be the cabbies, but with a family of 5, I wonder whether the cabs are big enough and if there is an extra charge making it close to $50 anyway. If you want any of the sites for these companies, let me know.

Finally, yes, I do plan to skip the timeshare high pressure talk at the resort. Even with the freebies, I hear it is really long and stressful. My wife would kill me if I agreed to it.
