  • GM Riveira Maya, Veterans Day Week??

We have GM RM on hold for week starting Saturday Nov 10 which includes Veterans Day on the 11th(celebrated 12th this year). Would this be considered a busy week??
Frank, you had said that you thought the switching folks from GM to MP was mainly a problem during Holiday or busy weeks so that is what prompted my question. That is really the best week for us to go.
As usual thanks for any info.
I have a couple more questions but will post them in a while.

Ken I think you are going to be OK that week. But if you are switched to a Standard MP unit that is not that much of a bad thing. See the Grand Mayan units are further from the main pool area. The standard MP units are right there. BTW wake up early to get a pool bed, go at 5:30 am and sleep there. Make reservations for a window in The restaurant at the main building on the 2nd floor over looking the pool all lit up at night. There is an old fishing village about 4 miles before you get to the resort. I forget the name just ask someone, Food is cheap there.

I think a week in November will not be too crowded so wouldn't be worried about a switch.

Frank, at Riviera Maya - do they 'segregate' the GM people from the 'regular' MP people - can everyone use ALL the pools at both resort???

I am at GM but I am thinking about renting a Mayan Palace week for 6 friends, would this work out?

The new GM pool complex at the Rivera Maya is for the GM only

just like in Nuevo or Acapulco.

The MP pools can be used be all.

The new GM water park should be complete by November according to what I have heard. We won't be there until next March, so we are sure that it will be ready for us

              Frank,Pat and Greg,
Thanks for the replies. And thanks for the tips on the rest and pool beds Frank. Yes, I read that thread on the pool beds and lounges. Have run in to that at other resorts, but, maybe not quite as bad as described here..
I am an early riser anyway but I usually use the time between when I get up and when my wife does to go out to do some photography as I like to get photos early morning when there aren't as many people around.

              A couple of new questions:
If only get a chance to tour one of the ruins is Tulum or Chichen Itza the better place to go??
Also, Frank if you did a tour of the ruins did you drive there or take a tour that picked you up at the hotel??
Anyone know the best place/deal for snorkeling?? Take a tour from the hotel or get one somewhere else? (in the past I have found that generally speaking tours from the resorts were more expensive and not as good as you could do elsewhere, don't know if that holds true there or not??
Also, has anyone done any of the eco parks like Xcaret and are they worth it and how much do you get to see/do there??

Thanks again in advance for any info anyone can provide. I find the info I get here to be so much better than other places. I always read all the reviews I can find on TripAdisor but always end up more confused because one person always really likes a place and someone else always pans it. I know that opinions differ but at least here I know that the opinions are honest.
              thanks again all.

We did Xcaret and Tulum. We drove to both places. Get to Xcaret early because all the good events that you have to pay extra for book up early. Also bring your own snorkel gear if you have it. That will save you some time online and money when you want to snorkel there salt water caves.

I beg your pardon, My buns are not Crumbs!!! They are at least entire loaves...

They way to overcome this is to have them check in with you to the GM and get the wrist bands. Then even though they are staying at the MP, they will be able to access the GM pools
Some of the guards, at least in Nuevo start to recognize you, so after a few days they didn't bother to check us.

My friend was allowed 5 people in a 1BR - how many would they allow to check in with a 2BR - 8-9 people???

                          Hi all,
We've just gotten back from a week staying @Grand Mayan Riviera. We stayed there from Jun 22 through Jun 29. Each of us, adults only, was given a wrist band. No wrist band was given to children.
I hate to say this but based on my conversation with the concierge, there will be NO waterpark built, just another pool. She was not even sure if a lazy river will ever be built.
We did Xel Ha tour-all inclusive and it's worth it. Since it's unlimited food and drink (alcohol included), you may want to get there as soon as it opens so that you can get the most for your money. If you want save some money, try to book these tours, not @ the resort, but @some travel booths located on 5th avenue. If you want, I can email you the name of the person whom we booked with and were glad that we did. We got the Tulum and Xel Ha all inclusive package with a private van and private tour guy for $65.00 per person for 12 people.

                              Thanks!

As far as an additional pool or water park - I really just want to make sure my group can all hang out together - some at the Grand and some are staying at MP.....
Would we have a problem all being at the pool together?
we are traveling woith some kids but really they are all 12 and over.
