Snorkleing while at GM Riviera Maya??

Anyone have any ideas on the best snorkleing trips in this area? We are not experts but like to snorkle.
I was told that the trip promoted by the GM was just so/so (ie only a few fish and dead reef). Any live reefs around there (how about off Cozumel), or at least places with lots of fish??
Oh yeah, on a different subject, are there any bands that play at MP/GM for dacing etc. If not are there places in Playa del Carmen or do you have to go into Cancun??

There are dozens of dive shops in playa, almost all of who do snorkeling trips. We have done alot of diving with Phantom Divers (phantomdivers.com) who are located one block off the beach not too far from the main market on 5th avenue. We've had great luck with them, but you'll see many as you walk around town. The reef is so huge there I'm sure there are tons of great places they can take you.

I don't know about bands. There was one at the GM a couple nights that I know of, but we didn't spend alot of time there after dark to be able to give you good tips.
