  • Mayan Palace Rivera Maya currently on fire!

Fire just started My friend Scott is there on his Honeymoon thanks to us here at timeshareforums and Beags.

The fire started about 2 hours ago near the construction and went to a hut then they vacated the standard Mayan units in building 1 , 2 and 3 which have just smoke and water damage right now. I was told the staff is handling this very well and moved everyone to safely. Not sure yet what they will be doing with all those people or what will happen with future confirmations in those buildings. Scott will be sending me pictures to post soon.

Sounds pretty bad Frank. Hope there isn't toomuch damage. We just returned early this morning from Mayan Palace Grand Acapulco and there was a couple we were speaking to at the pool that were headed to the Mayan Palace Riviera Mayan after there two week were up in Acapulco so they either left yesterday as we did or were going next week straight from Acapulco to Cancun.

Since this is high season it will be a challenge for them to accomodate everyone coming into the Riviera Mayan Palace. Let us know wat happens since I'm sure there are TSFMs and TUG members with confirmations to Mayan Palace in the coming weeks.

Can you tell me what I am looking at in the last picture? Is that framework of new structure, artwork, structure after the fire? I have no reference (never having seen pictures), so just looking at the pictures, it could look like serious loss.

I don't know myself it could be new construction or burnt down, Hopefully Scott will let us know when he gets back next week.

We were just there two weeks ago so it is quite shocking to be hearing of this. I have been trying to get my bearings on the pictures posted to figure out what all is exactly involved.

In the second picture I can tell that the area shown is the new Grand Mayan area which was partly completed but mostly under construction yet. I recognize the radio tower in the backround which is located on the roof of the building which housed the LaTramonto restaraunt, the internet cafe, and a few shops. It looks to me like the closest structure to the camera is the check in area for the Grand Mayan. This was the structure where you would stop for valet parking and was also the main shuttle stop for this area. This part was completed when we were there and was very beautiful.

Behind the first structure, there were similar structures which made a circle around the new Grand Mayan pool. This is also the area which was still under construction. I would say that on about 1/3 of those structures the thatched roof had been finished. There really was not much located in these areas at this time and anything that was there you could tell were in temporary quarters. They could easily be moved to the Mayan Palace check-in area since this seems to be where they were before they opened this area up.

This will definitely affect the two new pools in the Grand Mayan area.

All I have to say is that the thatched roof over the check-in area was HUGE and that must have been quite a sight to see that thing burn.

I wonder if it was started by a disgruntled exchanger who was downgraded from the Grand Mayan.

That looks like the new construction for the new Grand Mayan center where the new indoor pool etc is going to be.

I don't think an e-mail would disrupt anything important.
