  • Looks like Grand Mayan NV check in problems maybe starting again

Just got back from great week at GM NV.

We met a couple who came in weekend of Jan 19 to Grand Mayan on RCI exchange. They were told no rooms available and put in Sea Garden.

We also spoke to 2 different couples who were given room different rooms and when they walked into room found them occupied.
    -very poor management

All 3 couples complained about repeated attempts to speak to management and were ignored.

All were furious and were calling RCI today Monday Jan 28.

Yikes! Sea Garden is quite a BIG stepdown from GM...such a shame they can't get their act together as this is SUCH a nice resort!

As far as I can recall this was the first resort to pull the switch and was the one with the most switch's.

I think you're right Frank I just got back from Grand Mayan Acapulco and had no problems. I checked in right away and got a Garnd Mayan unit and although RCI exchangers usually don't get ocean views I did get a nice Golf course view on a high floor so had no problems with street noise.

We got there around 1:00 PM ( we stayed downtown at the Hyatt for the weekend before our Sunday check in at MP) and first they wanted us to wait till 4:00 PM to check in but when I showed them I already bought food requiring refrigeration she checked again and gave us our 1BR suite with kitchen and plunge pool right away. We loved the Grand having stayed at the regular Mayan Palace the last time we were there. I would not have accepted the Sea Garden under any circumstances. Sorry to hear that there pulling the same switching crap again in NV so unless they stop doing this I doubt that I would ever take the chance of going there.

This seems to be an RCI thing with Grand Mayan exchanges. I have never heard of this happening with SFX exchanges to Grand Mayan. We certainly didn't have any problem with any of our exchanges with SFX to Grand Mayan - Nuevo Vallarta nor Grand Mayan - Riviera Maya. We exchanged into the Grand Mayan - Nuevo Vallarta for 2 consecutive weeks during one of their busiest times and not only had no problem but we got a prime ocean view unit on the top floor of the middle building.

I was lucky last year when we had two back-to-back weeks at GM NV. I would have not been a happy camper being moved to the Sea Garden. RCI should not allow them to get away with that.

We love the Grand Mayan and are going soon for 2 weeks. We will be very upset if we are moved because we only traded here because it was the Grand!!

We just got back 04/27/08 from the Grand Mayan Neuvo Vallarta. We had no problems getting into our two bedroom unit--but we were not successful in getting an ocean view. I think we tried every way there is to get one, but no luck. The resort is lovely and the staff is very accomodating. However, the next trip to Puerto Vallarta, I won't stay in Neuvo. We drove into town most days because the Grand Mayan simply doesn't feel very Mexican to us; you could be anywhere in the world (maybe, most obviously, in Las Vegas). We definitely are fans of the Romantic Zone and Old Town. There aren't any timeshares there, of course, but Los Tules and the Sheradan are much closer, and for us, would give us a better way to experience the area.

Do you remember that one poster over at TUG who was such a GM fanatic - might even call her a GM snob. I recall her posting that one reason she liked the GM so much was because she could go to Mexico without it being like Mexico. Didn't have to deal with people who didn't speak English and didn't have to see people who might be poor (except of course the hotel staff, but the hotel made sure they didn't look and act like they were poor).

She never could see the irony causing people to ask why she bothered to go to Mexico if her goal was to not seem as if she was in Mexico.

                    “You shouldn't wear that body.”
