I am planning to take our family to Cancun next February (not Pres. Week), how hard of a trade would it be? We need a 1BR and I have a strong trader but don't want to put in an ongoing request if this is an impossible trade...

How hard of a trade into Royals in Feb?

It's not impossible, just tough. The Royals billed for fees 90 days prior to the interval and the fee is due 60 days prior to that interval. Folks that don't plan ahead deposit late, others that know the game deposit early as the Royals can be deposited before the fee is paid. I would suggest you put in a request now and pick 3 Royals and maybe more than one week- my suggestion would be for the Caribbean, Islander and Sands. You could add the Haciendas if you don't mind staying south of Cancun near Playa.

Thanks so much. I have to wait about a month to get the AC for my deposit, but then I will put in an ongoing request at those 3 resorts and hope for the best...then I suppose we'll have to choose another easier destination to trade into as the time gets closer but keep our fingers crossed as we'd love to try Cancun.

As you are using a 1BR to trade, you are likely to get The Royal Islander or Sands as they allow Lock-offs to trade separately and you see 1BR deposits.
You could even get lucky and get a 2BR with your 1BR exchange especially if you include early February.
I have gotten exchanges for Presidents Week at 22 months out and have friends that have exchanged as short as 6 months out. I think you will do just fine.
