Beach at Grand Mayan Riviera

I've heard conflicting reports on the beaches that are north or south of the beach in front of the Grand Mayan Riviera.

I don't mind walking further to be able to go into the ocean, but I was wondering if it's true that there is a beach that I can walk to enjoy the water?

As I am sure you have been told, the beach at the Grand Mayan is not swimmable, too many rocks and coral to allow access to the water. Some folks say that you can wear water shoes and still go in but personally I would not chance it, again too many jagged rocks and coral.
You can walk down either north or south and some say find swimmable areas but I walked quite a ways and didn't find any really nice beaches. I did come across some spots that were a lot better than at the Grand Mayan walking north, but did not swim much there. We spent a couple of days in Playa del Carman swimming at the beaches there which are very nice.

As you walk North, there are also a couple of very rocky areas you must walk across that are very difficult to navigate. Between 3 of us, 2 of us ended up misstepping and falling. My cousin (70), and me (59).
