We are going to be at the Grand Mayan RM for Easter Week. My kids are wondering whether the lazy river and wave pool will be open when we arrive. Last year we were at the Grand Mayan NV and the kids loved the pools. My kids are hoping the pools are the same at the GM RM. What is the latest news on the construction of the new pools? Thanks.

When we were there in November there was no construction going on for a wave pool or lazy river. They were doing construction on a new building that was to be the new GM center which I understand is to have an indoor pool.
That building is were the recent fire was.
Anyway I asked about the building of a waterpark type pool area that we had heard about and was told that that was not going ahead, and like I said there was no building going on that project.
Sorry but I don't think there will be a lazy river or wave pool there.ken H.,Ballston Lake, NY

We were there late January, and no evidence of anything regarding construction of a lazy river. I didn't ask anything about it either. Definitely won't be one at Easter 2008. We were in NV in Oct 2007, and really enjoyed the lazy river, especially when they started the wave machine.Give me a place with 4 S's: Sun, sand, surf, & suds-Dale (from Illinois)

We asked about it and were told that it would be done by Spring. However, I did not see any pool construction. I gave a week to my aunt and cousin who will be there on the 9th of March. I was almost afraid to tell them about the fire. I hope that it will not disturb your check in and vacation.

Within the first few minutes upon learning that we owned via ebay, she told us that we don't qualify for the tour. To her disappointment, her manager made her put up with us. Her reason for our lack of qualification was that we did not come with an open mind. Very short tour.

I'm mostly going to repeat what everyone else said, but...
We were there in the middle of January (1 week before the fire) and I searched everywhere I could to find a lazy river, wave pool, or childrens water park like we had been hearing about. I walked all over the newest Grand Mayan pool area and peered into every gap I could find through the construction fences. I even stood in the internet cafe and looked out the window to get a birds's eye view of the construction area.
There was definitely NO lazy river, wave pool, or childrens water park being built anywhere on the property that I could find. I tried to ask a couple of workers about these amenities but they had a little trouble understanding what exactly I was trying to ask.
Sorry!!!

Bummer. My kids will be disappointed. However, I understand the pools that exist are pretty good. Moreover, it is really cold here and 80 degrees in Mexico will look good to us no matter what the pool is like.

I know this is an old post, but we just returned from 4 weeks at GM with only one DAY of rain & 3-4 nites with showers. As I walked on North side of Mayan Palace West of MP lobby one can see an abandoned lazy river hidden by plywood. If it was ever open, it probably didn't get much use due to the location.Give me a place with 4 S's: Sun, sand, surf, & suds-Dale (from Illinois)
