Grand Mayan RM -- need building near pool.

We are going to the Grand Mayan Riviera Maya in less than two weeks. This will be a first time visit for us. I hear that it can be quite a walk to the pool if you get certain buildings. What buildings are the closest to the pools? Maybe I can call now and request a certain building.

Also, does anybody know where to see a nice readable resort map -- that would detail the buildings, parking garage, etc. I see that Gophish has a map posted, but it is hard to read. Thanks. Tim

It won't really matter which unit you get at the Grand Mayan, The pool is far away no matter which building you take. But if I had to stay in the nearest I would say it might be the first building on the walk way.

Assuming they haven't renumbered the buildings since we were there in 2005, the Grand Mayan building 7 is the closest to the pools. As mentioned previously, it is still a pretty good hike to the pools regardless of the building. We are going back to the Grand Mayan - Riviera Maya for 2 weeks next month.

Tim - owner's generally get the units closest to the pools and beach. As others have said - it is a pretty long walk from any of the Grand Mayan buidlings. The closest building to the pool is #1 in both the MP and GM buildings. #1 & #2 in the MP are the closest of all. They do have shuttles that take you to the pool area and drop you off near the towel pick-up location. It is a long walk around the pool. You will also want to check out where the restrooms are since they are opposite ends of the pool area. It can be a long walk to those too.

Sorry I didn't respond sooner. We will be at the Grand Mayan - Riviera Maya for 2 weeks from April 11 - 25. We can try to meet. I won't have a car as we never rent cars in Mexico. In fact we almost never rent cars anywhere we go. Send me an e-mail.

The trip was great. We were there for Easter week. Although I called two times requesting building 1, 2 or 7, they gave me building 9. It wasn't too bad for walking to the pool, but still a pain. All in all, we didn't do much at the resort. We had a rental car and put over 1000 miles driving everywhere. Lots of snorkeling, exploring and visiting ruins. A great trip.
