      More Questions

We have two two bedrooms and one one bedroom units confirmed with II for Memorial Day week in 2009. Would it help to call and request a change and ask for them together or would it be best when we got there with a tip to the person assigning rooms? How is the best way to get from the airport to the resort?

Since the rooms are deeded you wont be able to do that.

I'm not sure how things are handled right now there, but it wouldn't hurt to give ISCO (Royals US service company) a call and see if there is anything that they can do. If you don't get anywhere there, then try asking at check-in and give them a tip if and after they shift things for you. Odds are they will give you whatever is assigned, but with a lot of exchangers, they might just accommodate you. ISCO's number is 1-800-930-5050.

Do I need to go with guest certificates for 2 of the 3 units?

Also, has anyone taken any of the private tours? If so, which company did you use and would you use them again?

Not if you are there to check into them. For tours attend the Sunday orientation at the Royals- they will discuss the trips and more useful stuff. Then you can decide what you want to do and book just about the same tours through Brant's Entertainment Plus: Entertainment Plus - Cancun Mexico

When you go out to dinner as a group, be aware that some restaurants add a tip to the bill for groups- so don't double tip. Also, separate checks might not be a bad idea as some waiters will throw in a little extra charge (some call it a gringo tax).

I'm just back from the Royal Sands tonight...wish I was still there. We had 3 units as well. We received 2 of the confirmed units. The third was a walkout ocean front...that party arrived later in the evening...and did not get her confirmed unit. I thought it might have been too good to be true and she didn't question it-so no big deal. I went with guest certs-only because we were all arriving at different times with the first arrival being a guest and I was not able to check them in.

We used Brant at Entertainment Plus for tours and airport transfer and I couldn't be happier...everything went exactly like he said it would. His emails/confirmations are very detailed.

You will LOVE your stay with the Royal Resorts. I can't get over the service and cleanliness. I'd go back in heartbeat

Oh and congrats on matching all your units-that's awesome!

                  StessCadet,

What all did you do and if you had it to do over again, what would you change?

Did you eat out or in or a combination? Where did you buy your food?

Do the units have a washer & dryer?

                  Thanks.

                    Hello again,

I am so sorry-I lost track of this post...I knew it was here-I just couldn't find it.

What did we do? As far as tours and activities, this is what we did:

Chichen Itza and Ik Kil Cenote private tour through Brant. With a large group the price goes down for each person added. Well worth it to go private.

Private Charter Deep Sea Fishing. Boys loved this. Caught so many fish. The Veranda at the Sands prepared the fish they caught four different ways. Charged us 6.00 US for a plate of rice and vegs..salads, drinks, desserts were extra. Great evening!

Dolphin swim at the Aquarium. It's only a 65 cent bus ride away. Non participants or on lookers can pay 13.00 for entry to watch....we actually paid less at the window - the more people the less it cost. I think we paid 10.00. I was really happy with this program as I had wanted to be up close to watch and this is as up close as you can get and it doesn't burn your whole day.

                    What would I change?

I'd go to one of the eco water parks. X-Caret or Xel-ha. I'd also go to Isla Mujeres just to have a lazy day..look around, shop. lounge. But this is a personal observation. I was dealing with the need for activity and aderinline...which is not my style...and to make everyone happy.

The main thing with a large group is to remember that not everyone wants to do everything and that it is ok to either do it or step out of the plans. Everybody shouldn't have to go to dinner with everybody every night if that is not what they want...the same for tours. Plan down time too.

For the first time in my timesharing life-I didn't seek out a grocery store...I wanted to-but it just didn't happen. The Royals stock a good deal of essentials in their markets and the food on site is good and reasonable as well as your room key/card is basically a charge card-even at dining establishments off site-so it was very easy not to do anything more than what was offered. You can keep food prices down. I liked the express or in villas dining. A family of 4 could have a complete meal with chicken or ribs, side dishes or salad, bread/rolls and a whole pie for dessert for 20.00 to 28.00 US. Not bad.

There are no washers or dryers in the room but there is a facility on site. I didn't use them-but many have said it's not problem. You buy the soap on site and often the attendants will keep an eye out for your load and even fold it for you. Again, this is not personal experience but what I have read. Maybe someone with personal experience will chime in.

You are just going to have the best time with your family. I guarantee it. I am not an expert on Cancun. It was my first trip-but I hope what I have shared will help you

Express is like a deli/take out on site (at least at the Sands) In Villas dining is basically room service...without the tablecloth and silverware...because you already have the silverware

There is a menu and you just order up...you can even order at the express in person and have it delivered to your room while you stop by the market for drinks or something.

All of it is very good and reasonable.

                        Great service at the Royals.

Is the electrical the same as the US or is it different? If so, what do they use?

Mexico uses a 110 volt system everywhere I've been, just like in the U.S. I have also seen hotels that offer both 110 and 220 volt systems.
