Has anyone gone to Chichen Itza on a tour that spent the night in a local motel so that they had more time to explore the ruins?

I just took a day tour 2-3 years ago. We had a guide that led us around and explained the history. I even had time to climb to the top, which I understand is no longer allowed. Unless you're a real history buff or architect, the day trip is probably more than enough time.Give me a place with 4 S's: Sun, sand, surf, & suds-Dale (from Illinois)

Chichen Itza is of course more famous and now I believe a seven wonder of the world...but you cannot climb it...
So....Chichen Itza is for looking and saying you have been and Coba for actually climbing....I have many photos but no clue how to put on here....
Try googling it.....we did Chichen Itza and Coba both thru tours via Palace resorts.
I found Chichen Itza amazing ( if you are into ruins) but I enjoyed the challenge of climbing Coba more. I am not too much into Ruins but hubby is...so we saw them all....Timeshare Addict - Mexico Travel Abounds - Happy Vacations!!

Coba is south of Cancun between Xcaret and Chitzen-Itza more on the Xcaret side. It is "in the rough" for the most part and involves a great deal of walking- particularly to get to the Pyramid. One would be better off doing Tulum.
