  • Profile Status for Mayan Palace owners

We were told we have "Profile A +" status at Mayan Palace. Does anyone know how many profile status categories exist and the difference between them.

We were told we have preferences on room locations. Also that we can reserve 12 months in advance while some other owners can only reserve one month in advance.

I asked Mayan Reservations why we have this status and her guess was that we have two contracts and six weeks total for 2 bedroom units. I would really like to know if there are better status levels and if they have additional perks.

    Thanks

That is interesting because I can get a confirmed exchange into the Grand Mayans over a year in advance.

I believe Grand Mayan owners can make reservations further in advance then Mayan Palace.

Most Mayan Palace owers and Grand Mayan owners can only book 6 months in advance. The new Bliss unit owners can book 8 months in advance. The Profile A lets you book 12 months in advance, make special unit requests (higher floor, far/near elevator, close to swimming pool, etc.) , supposedly you will get one of the most desirable units, oceanview units when available and a fruit tray.

My Profile A letter says that because I have made a high dollarinvestment in the Mayan Resorts I have this status. Someone said it was given to owners who owned about $70,000+ in "equity". It started in Feb 2006, then they stopped giving out this status sometime in late 2007. Once you have it, you do not lose it, they just are not doing new Profile A status anymore.

Why would people still buy from a developer if you can do this with an exchange with an independent exchange company and with a timeshare in the USA that cost so much less? It is a slap in the face to the people who bought direct from the developer ( El Grupo Mayan ). If people only knew this before they buy or in time to rescind their contract.

I have no idea why they would buy from the developer. Not only can I request an exchange more than a year in advance but I have always been able to choose the unit location including ocean view when checking in.

Bear in mind that because the Grupo Mayan is affiliated with SFX, they have a lot of developer weeks available. With Grupo Mayan constantly expanding their resorts, developer weeks will probably be available for several years.

We did not buy from the developer, but did use them to upgrade our eBay purchases. Even going through them, we were able to get 2 GM units and the Profile A letter for about 17% of what others pay. We now own 4 MP units and 2 GM units for about the price of 1 GM unit from Grupo Mayan.

I know that John has great luck with SFX, but since we own MP & GM units, we cannot use them for decent trades on SFX. All of my contracts have a letter that says if I don't go, I don;t pay MF, so why would I try for an inferior exchange? We will no longer deposit with SFX . We get better exchanges with RCI.

MP bulk deposits, so inventory is available via RCI some time before owners can even book their weeks. MP's explanation is that this a benefit for people who want to exchange (but may not make that decision for some time)...I believe you can make your exchange decision as soon as you pay the m/f. For those who delay the decision to exchange, the unit has already been in RCI's hands and 'has better trade power because it was deposited earlier.' So I was told.

Of course, the deal about MP owners not being able to reserve until 6 mos. prior to checkin has never suited me well, but I bought resale for 'special weeks' and have more than paid for them by now, so guess I can't complain as much as others.
