Anyone been to Grand Mayan Acapulco lately?

Okay I booked a week at Grand mayan in Acapulco. Can't find a recent review on here. Anyone been in last say 6 months to a year or so. Would love some feedback. On the resort and the area..thanks in advance...

The resort has been done for a while and is one of the first that they built. We were there 2 years ago and loved it. But then again we loved the ones in both Rivera Maya and in NV. The pool here is one of the longest, You will need to take a cab to go into town where there are many good and cheap restaurants that have entertainment. If you want a romantic dinner go to Las Brisis, I also have a few others that we liked and ill post if I can find there card.

Thanks bigfrank....I just returned from the one in NV...not grand Mayan though...Mayan Palace...

You will have a car but may just park it and take cab anyway...we'll see when we get there.

I'll be sure to add Las Brisas to my trip folder....

If you find the info on the other restaurants that would be great, no rush though, not going until May 2009...Thanks again.

We were there in January and everything was fantastic. Loved the Grand Mayan after having stayed at the Mayan Palace ACA a few years ago the grand Mayan was far superior accomodations. They share everything with Mayan Palace but the Mayan Palace rooms were very dissapointing and were being torn down in January and they are probably still tearing down buildings at the pace they were going.

The area is close to the airport with much nicer beach than downtown. The beaches downtown were dirty looking and I would not go in the water there. The beach at Mayan Palace was great for long walks and watching the sunset. Did not compare to Caribbean beaches but was still OK for swimming.

When are you going since it can can very hot in Acapulco. Weather in January was fantastic hi 80's to low 90's every day.

Hi Larry, I am going in May...LOL...I know it will be HOT< HOT.....that is okay I like it that way! I am always cold. Only person in Mexico who lugs along a sweater every month LOL....Of course cannot compare ocean to Carribbean, but I really like the pacific side better even though beaches or water not so nice, plus we can drive, so no flight.

I am going to do the must see things, going to follow bigfranks advise and go to Las Brisas and a few other things, then rest of time at Grand Mayan mostly. You know Cliff divers, something Chapel, diego mural, a few other things......of course the town....

We are driving there and I hear parking and traffic can be brutal, so for times going out will most likely cab it...

People here in my area say the Mayan is lovely but other than that you will not like ACApulco, they say of course you have to see at least once but they put it as putting Guadalajara on a mountain ( big city) on the ocean.........they are basing it on the other places we have been and their perceptions, but we'll see as many have told me of areas they loved and I thought oh just okay. Both Mexicans and Americans doing this to me....bah humbug....I'll like it for one time anyway....we'll see if it is a two timer...

Either way it will be another place in Mexcio I have seen....after that we are headed for a week to Ixtapa to a resort we love, so it should be a great two weeks....

Gosh I wish I had that weather where I am in January!
