  • Sudwala white wks upgraded to red by RCI

Just received the levy statement and newsletter from Sudwala and been informed that white wks 23, 36-46 have been upgraded by RCI to red weeks.

That's good news for those that bank with RCI as I'm assuming that the trade power will increase.

Would be interested to know whether it will make a significant difference.

I thought that in RCI it was all supply and demand based for trading power. If that's the case, why would seasonal designation make any difference?

The newsletter said that "following an utilisation analysis of the Mpumalanga Area being undertaken recently" RCI has upgraded these weeks and that "they will with immediate effect, get the better trading value of red weeks".

So that seems to indicate supply and demand or "utilisation analysis" has caused the adjustment. Maybe they only adjust trade power at certain times..

      I don't know.

Maybe nothing will come of it at all. Could be just conjecture with regards to the increase trade power on the resort's part.

It would be a question of timing. I would imagine there would be a similar time frame for upgrading trade power and color status- tho not necessarily at the same exact time.

          Has anyone noticed a change?

I have a week that was upgraded but I can't say I can tell a difference - my red weeks still seem to trade about the same.

A friend of mine also has a white week that was u/g to red and it is still an average trader. No change says she! I said, maybe after the next years deposit since RCI locks in your trade power at deposit.

Can't say I've noticed a change since I never did trade tests but the deposit acknowledgement letter I received from RCI when I banked the 2007 wk stated that it was a red week instead of white.

You got a deposit acknowlegdement letter? I don't think I ever have from SA deposits...I just see them online after I make the request. Maybe I need to do something differently? Anyway, I don't see any change so far.

In Australia, guess you don't in the US, we receive a deposit acknowledgement letter in the mail. This usually arrives a few wks after the deposit appears online. I used to think it was redundant but it's handy to have in situations like recently where my deposit just disappeared along with the exchange wk I'd made with it.

I used to just throw them away, but now I file them away.

I also notice that not all letters will indicate the colour of the week. The most recent S.A. deposit didn't, whereas the Sudwala one did. Strange.

I too received an acknowledgement letter from RCI for a week that was deposited into my RCI account. The week was deposited about a month ago and the letter from RCI came a couple of weeks ago.

I guess upgrading to red makes more of a difference within South Africa where they have their own point system.(red points worth more than white) Trading for us should remain the same as the previous poster said.

RCI's color scheme (red, white, blue) has nothing to do with SA's 'point' system. SA uses a 'point' system that also has nothing to do with RCI's Point system. SA is completely autonomous with their 'point' system.

"Seasonal designation" has a direct relationship to "supply & demand" (usually ) and is only one part of the trading power formula.

I just trade my 2006 Sudwala white week for a Thanksgiving week at Fairfield Grand Desert, Las Vegas. Not bad for a $200 MF/yr TS!

I recently paid my 2008 Maintenance Fee's a couple of months ago.

I tried several areas to do a trade comparison using a 2006, 2007 and the recently deposited 2008 week 1 (red) that was designated as Silver Crown.

The worse results came from the 2008 week.

I also have a white week number 34 that was even worse.

In the past both the red week 1 and the white week 34 were basically the same. Not any more.

I have been contemplating whether to keep my white weeks for 2008. They have been good to me in the past, but their usefulness may be over. I think I will hang on to the red weeks though. I too file my acknowledgement letters "just in case".
