Looks like about $700 to $ 800. I think they will get mine back.

Ouch!
I just received my annual report and it sounds like it will be at least that for a 2BR.
If I remember correctly that is more than we originally paid. It sounds like they will close the resort and do a total refurbishment.
I wonder if they will be able to turn the resort around or if this is throwing good money after bad?Susan

Need to think about it - but...
I think I only paid about $100 for it - if it turns around, it would probably still be worth it, but I wonder how long it will be unavailable. Does that mean we can't trade our weeks in '08? I have gotten some good trades with it so I'm not sure what I'll do - we haven't gotten the notice yet.

Big special assessments (levies) and other measures to try to get owners to deed back are a trademark of the Club Leisure Group. The management company of Seapointer, First Resorts, is owned by the shady Club Leisure Group. Ultimately, Club Leisure will then sell off either some units or the entire resort for a big profit to themselves.
For info on Club Leisure, check out CRIMESHARE - South Africa and scroll through for references to Club Leisure Group, its head Stewart ''Bullfrog'' Lamont, and its various tenacles like Flexi-Club, Star Club, CRI (Club Resorts International), etc. There is even more material, going back years, in the archives.
It is a shame to give your week to these scoundrels, who likely manufactured this crisis for just that purpose. Better to sell it on eBay or Bidshares for $1.
There is another crowd, almost as bad, the Beekmans of Holiday Club, which has recently been buying weeks on the open market at Dikhololo. If they take over the management there, it is time to bail.

Steve, I remember you commenting on club Liesure before and was planning on contacting you to add it to this thread- but you saved me some time.
I don't know which would be the worst thing to do- sell it to someone on Ebay for $ 1 and perpetuate the problem or just give it back and be done with it- I am leaning towards the latter.

Somehow I just can't see anyone buying these weeks on Ebay even for $1.00.
I think the choice is pony up or try to give it back ASAP. The section on the SA says that It would need to be approved by 75% of owners. I wonder if they will take back enough weeks to control 75% then force it through.
The only other choice would be to pay and hope for the best. Maybe after the work is complete, it will be worth keeping as it has been a very good trader, and might even get better.
P.S. This is the third resort I own with a Special Assessment this year.Susan

From the way Club Leisure works, they will probably offer to give you points in one of their clubs like CRI or Flexi-club in payment for your week, and then you would not be responsible for the special levy. Of course, the points in those clubs would be virtually worthless, but Club Leisure would acquire ownership, which is the name of the game. Read their background on Crimeshare before even thinking about any such deal.
Another auction that might produce results to dispose of a week is the SA auction site, bidorbuy - South Africa - Bid, Buy or Sell cameras, computers, diamonds, coins, cars & more on auction at cheap prices , but who knows your buyer may be a shill for Club Leisure anyway.

Greg,
Did you every figure out about giving the unit back to the resort. I have a week that I would like to give away.

Giving it back is exactly what the Club Leisure scammers who orchestrated this sorry event want. I would first try to find a third party civilian to give it to, NOT to the Club Leisure crooks. Put it up on the Bid or Buy auction in South Africa for 1 rand. List it on TUG's giveaway board. Do something other than let CLub Leisure get their hands on it.

getting rid of Seapointer
I've contacted them about selling to their "corporate buyer", and they said that it would be a month or two before they would get back to me. If I can't deposit this week with RCI, then Seapointer needs to go. Too bad, my 2008 week got me a week at Manhattan Club (fortunately I banked it way ahead with RCI, so I did get to use it)
