Expiring weeks

I have two weeks in RCI bank due to expire July 30/2006. Despite constant searching (well on days off anyway) I have not been able to find an exchange I want. What would you do in my shoes? Let them expire....or what? I have already let one go unused last year but I hate to let two more go unused this year. I have been looking for sonewhere I can drive to, mainly BC in June or even Manitoba. Should I pay the price and extend them by 6 months or just let them go. My son wants to go to New York in late August but these expire before then. He doesn't think a 2-4 hour drive would be out of the question to go see a ball game at Yankee Stadium. What resorts do you think I could get within that area with a DiK week? Both weeks are Dik red a 1 bdroom and a red 2 bdroom.
Any and all advice appreciated!

The New York area in August will be rather hard to get. With SA, you have to be a bit flexible and exchange as far in advance as possible. Just 7 more posts and our sightings area will be accessible for you-maybe you can spot something there you like.

If you're not finding what you want with RCI, have you considered using another exchange company next time? DAE has availability in both BC and manitoba -- I don't know what the resorts are like, but they're there. I wouldn't let your weeks go again. Have you called a guide? Maybe they can see something for you that you cannot see??

Have you been using on-going searches or just searching on-line once in awhile? There is a big difference in the time you search on-line. Certain times there may be more inventory than other times. If you don't have the time to look then you really need to put in on-going searches and then you need to monitor that so you get what you want...be specific with what you want but be as flexible as you can with many choices. At this point in time you should really be open to most any area acceptable to you.

Thanks for the replies so far! To try to answer some of the questions, I do not have on ongoing search in place. Son only informed me that he wanted me to look for somewhere he could drive to Yankee stadium from! My first question was why didn't you tell me last year you were going to request vacation in super prime time August. I can only hope that maybe something comes up in last call for the time period he wants. If not, c'est la vie!
I do have a week or two banked with DAE but those are exclusively for my wife and I to enjoy! I've been lucky enough to get what I wanted the last three years with DAE and hope my success continues with them. I let the week expire last year while my better half was undergoing radiation treatments and timeshares were not at the forefront of my mind. Everything seems to be ok now and I am beginning to look forward to vacations again and searching. Unfortunately we are not allowed to use the Inet at work for personal use and travel, vacation sites are specifically banned. Anyway, I will keep searching RCI when I can and hopefully something will come up that we can settle for,

Poconos an option?

If you are interested, there are studios sleeping 4/2 available at Villas at Treetops in the Poconos on 7/16 and 7/23/06. I saw this with DIK. You could make a drive to Yankee Stadium from there if you wanted to.

Thanks Jackio, but his vacation time falls into the last 2 weeks of August. He took 6 shifts off which gives him 18 days. About 2 weeks ago I found a 1 bedroom on a lake in NY state, called him and asked if he wanted it. Couldn't make up their mind. Of course the next day it was gone. Talked to him today and now he's not sure what they want or where they want to go. Now they're considering going camping with the in-laws so I give up! If anything is available in last call when they are ready to go I'll grab it but unitl then I'm going to quit looking. He's too used to "hoteling" it and just doesn't realize the the time spans required to get "what you want"

I don't know if you are aware that you can put a 24 hour hold on an exchange. You have to put in your credit card, but they reverse the charge if you don't take the week.

There is a studio sleeping 4/2 at Villa at Tree Tops available for 8/17 seen with Dik. Also a 2BR checking in on 8/26. I think I remember reading that you can extend your deposit by 3 months, but I don't remember what the fee is.

Thanks for looking Jackio! I apologize for being so late with my reply, but on days I have to work I don't get much computer time! I see the 1 br at Deer Run Village in Stamford but it is check in Aug 2nd. Unfortunately he doesn't yet have the flexibility with vacations that I do. He has to vie for vacation with about 200 team members and I only have to worry about 1. The advantages of antiquity huh!
