  • SVN Non-Mandatory (Voluntary) Resorts

Looking into buying into a Starwood Vacation resort. I understand that buying resale at a Non-Mandatory (Voluntary) Resort, will not let you participate in the Starwood Vacation Network and you can only stay at the resort that you buy in to.

Can these Non-Mandatory (Voluntary) weeks be traded on II? I see that the Mandatory resorts are automatically enrolled (and paid for) when they are bought retail.

    Thanks, David

That is correct. You cannot participate in the Starwood Vacation Network, but you CAN trade through II. Depending on what resort you purchase, you might also be able to trade through RCI.

Not only can you exchange into other resorts, you can also trade into other Sheraton, or Westin resorts, through II. You will be able to take advantage of the SVO, 3 day preference period, as well.

I purchased a resale Sheraton, and am more than happy with it's trading power in II, and I love the 3 day preference period. It gives you an opportunity to get some great Sheraton, and Westin resorts.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

What is the 3 day preference period? I have not read anything about that.

Starwood owners can see SVO deposits to II three days before non-Starwood owners can see them. So that gives Starwood owners a preference to book those weeks. There was just a space-bank of Westin Ka'anapali weeks for April and May 2008, and only Starwood owners could see them, initially.

There is a procees in place to "requalify" units to be able to participate in SVN. But that entails buying an additional unit from the develpoer to requalify your resale unit.
